The renal pelvic pressure/volume relationship was investigated in 8 pigs with a 10-week total unilateral obstruction. The pressure in the totally obstructed pelves was significantly increased to a mean value of 44 cm H2O (30.5-64). The authors report the case of a 64-year-old man who presented normal pressure hydrocephalus in the course of hypertensive and arteriosclerotic vasculopathy confirmed by postmortem examination. A blood clot was found on the central area of the left cerebellar hemisphere. Increased catecholamines after myocardial infarction may contribute to the development of arrhythmias. We have infused adrenaline intravenously in nine normal volunteers to levels similar to those seen after myocardial infarction. Adrenaline caused an increase in systolic blood pressure, a decrease in diastolic blood pressure, and an increase in heart rate. The healing in 20 through-knee amputations was compared with preoperatively measured skin perfusion pressure, determined as the minimal external pressure required to stop the washout of isotopes injected intradermally 10 cm distal to the knee joint. Out of 18 amputations with a skin perfusion pressure of above 20 mmHg only 2 failed to heal, whereas 2 out of 4 cases with skin perfusion pressure below 20 mmHg failed to heal. It is concluded that the through-knee amputation must be considered in cases where the circulation is borderline for healing in below-knee amputation.

To enhance the bedside diagnosis of tricuspid regurgitation, the influence of manual pressure applied below the liver on lower left sternal border murmurs was determined in 23 patients. All 23 subjects had right ventriculograms and right atrial phonocardiograms. The sign was positive in 13 cases, including 3 who were without a Carvallo sign. The application of manual pressure below the liver is a simple and valid additional maneuver for identifying the murmur of tricuspid regurgitation.

Plotting hourly mean blood pressures recorded continuously by an intra-arterial technique in fully ambulant subjects on a time scale has clearly outlined a circadian biorhythm which is a useful tool for the study of antihypertensive drugs. In 50 patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) the findings on lumbar isotope cisternography (IGG) were compared to the conductance to outflow of CSF (Cout) as measured by lumbo-ventricular perfusion. The purpose was to identify those ICG-characteristics that imply a low Cout and thus may indicate CSF shunting therapy. Gastric (GP) and lower oesophageal sphincter pressures (LOSP) were measured in non-pregnant female volunteers (group I) and pregnant women with (group III) or without (group II) heartburn. Patients in early pregnancy had greater gastric pressures than group I. The use of a new apparatus has enabled the authors to study the distribution to the ground of the plantar pressures by the way of ciphering each support area.
