Baseline characteristics of a diagnostically defined early psychosis cohort entering supported employment and education: findings from the SEEearly trial.

UNLABELLED: SEEearly is a multi-site randomized controlled trial (RCT) investigating the efficacy of supported employment and education (SEE) in adolescents and young adults aged 16 to 35 with early psychosis. In this publication we report baseline characteristics of the cohort with an emphasis on educational and vocational status at study entry. Between October 2022 and December 2024, a total of 184 participants with a diagnosis of schizophrenia spectrum disorder were recruited across six sites in Germany. At baseline, 53.3% were not engaged in employment, education, or training (NEET); only

Innovative AI-based system for precision diagnosis of childhood strabismus incorporating gaze tracking and real-time correction feedback.

PurposeStrabismus is a common pediatric eye disorder that can lead to developmental and psychosocial consequences if not treated promptly. Traditional diagnostic methods often depend on clinician expertise, which can result in variability and delayed intervention.MethodsA prospective diagnostic accuracy trial was conducted with 250 children aged 3 to 10 years. Eye-tracking and image data were collected using a Tobii Pro Fusion device and analyzed using a dual-stream deep learning model (ResNet-50 combined with a 1D-CNN). The diagnostic performance was compared against pediatric ophthalmologist

Health-related quality of life after thulium fiber laser lithotripsy: a prospective study according to stone localization.

To evaluate postoperative changes in health-related quality of life (HRQoL) after endoscopic stone surgery and to determine whether recovery patterns differ according to stone localization. In this prospective observational study, 50 patients undergoing endourological stone surgery were stratified according to stone localization (renal, ureteral, and bladder). HRQoL was assessed using the SF-36 questionnaire preoperatively, on postoperative day 1, and at 1, 3, and 6 months. Stone-free status was evaluated at postoperative month 1 using KUB radiography and/or non-contrast CT when clinically ind

Unmet needs in penile cancer: Review and perspectives from the Global Society of Rare Genitourinary Tumors.

Penile cancer is an uncommon yet aggressive disease, especially at advanced stages. Management can be morbid, and patients often face a significant psychosocial impact alongside a lack of patient advocacy/support system in most parts of the globe. Local treatments can preserve penile function and provide acceptable oncologic control in selected patients. The use of organ-sparing treatments is higher in experienced centers, where adherence to guidelines is greater. Inguinal lymph node dissection remains essential in the management of this disease as it is both diagnostic and therapeutic. Severa

Perceived Paternal Acceptance-Rejection, Self-Perception, and Peer Victimization in Preadolescents with and Without Special Educational Needs.

Peer victimization during preadolescence constitutes a significant public mental health concern, particularly for children with special educational needs (SEN). Family relational factors, and especially paternal acceptance-rejection, may influence children's psychosocial adjustment and vulnerability to victimization. The present study examined the associations between perceived paternal acceptance-rejection, multidimensional self-perception, and peer victimization among preadolescents with and without SEN. A total of 660 students attending the final grades of Greek primary schools (553 without

Minimally invasive orthodontic management: a paradigm shift in interceptive care. Part I - concept and palatally displaced canines.

INTRODUCTION: Conservative approaches in childhood may enhance esthetics and function while reducing the likelihood of complex Phase II orthodontic treatments during adolescence. OBJECTIVE: This article aims to introduce the principles of Minimally Invasive Orthodontic Management (MIO) during the mixed dentition period, promoting the concept of "as little intervention as possible", in accordance to The "Orange July" campaign. METHODS: The core principles of MIO include: (1) early diagnosis and risk assessment; (2) evidence-based, timely, and targeted interventions; and (3) prioritization of

Symptomatic treatment for Alzheimer disease: current evidence and future directions.

Symptomatic treatment remains central to the clinical management of Alzheimer disease (AD), even as disease-targeted therapies emerge. This Review synthesizes current evidence for pharmacological and non-pharmacological symptomatic therapies targeting cognition, function and neuropsychiatric symptoms in AD. Non-pharmacological interventions, including cognitive training, physical exercise, cognitive stimulation therapy and multimodal lifestyle programmes, show small-to-moderate benefits, particularly in mild cognitive impairment, although implementation challenges persist. Pain in SCD-Many mechanisms and mysteries.

Pain is the most common complication experienced by individuals living with sickle cell disease (SCD). While episodes of acute pain, also known as vaso-occlusive crises, are the hallmark of the disease, chronic pain is prevalent in SCD and is associated with many comorbidities. We review current understanding of pain in SCD across the lifespan, integrating definitions, mechanistic categories, and management within biologic, psychosocial, and environmental contexts. Acute vaso-occlusive pain, which emerges as early as infancy, evolves from intermittent nociceptive events driven by multicellular

Age-Related Transitions in Low Back Pain Pathology: A Life-Course Narrative Review.

INTRODUCTION: Low back pain (LBP) represents the primary global cause of years lived with disability, significantly compromising health-related quality of life and imposing a substantial economic burden on healthcare systems. This narrative review conceptualizes LBP as a dynamic life-course process rather than a static diagnostic entity. METHOD: A comprehensive search of PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science was conducted using MeSH and free-text terms (e.g., "Low Back Pain," "Aging," spine diseases) for clinical trials, cohorts, and reviews published from inception through to January 2026. Comparing Patient-Reported and Physician-Assessed Modified Rankin Scale Scores Among Adults With Chronic Neurologic Disorders in Zambia.

OBJECTIVES: The modified Rankin Scale (mRS) is commonly used to assess functional status, but validation in African populations is limited. We aimed to (1) evaluate concordance between clinician-assessed and patient-reported mRS among adults with chronic neurologic conditions in Zambia and (2) explore reasons for scoring discrepancies. METHODS: A mixed-methods, cross-sectional study was conducted among adults with chronic neurologic disorders in Zambia. Neurologists completed an in-person mRS evaluation, and participants completed a patient-reported mRS questionnaire. Semistructured interview

The Use of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures in Developmental Age: A Complementary Tool for Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis Prognosis.

In pediatric multiple sclerosis (MS), assessment of disease burden predominantly relies on outcome measures developed and validated in adult populations. The application of these tools to children and adolescents may compromise sensitivity and specificity, potentially resulting in an underestimation of disease impact. Symptoms such as fatigue, mood disorders, and cognitive impairment may present subtly in younger patients and are therefore prone to underrecognition in routine clinical practice. Comprehensive evaluation of pediatric MS requires integration of the perspectives of both patients a

Social reward responsiveness as a moderator of the association between perceived bonding with infants and depressive symptoms in postpartum women.

There is a need to identify neurobiological and psychosocial risk processes for postpartum depression (PPD). Previous research links low reward responsiveness with lower reported affiliation or bond to one's infant and PPD symptoms, but the potential moderating role of reward processing in the relationship between bonding with infants and PPD has yet to be examined. The current study (n = 117) used a personally salient social reward task to examine whether neural reward responsiveness moderates the association between bonding difficulties and PPD symptoms. Postpartum women (n = 93) completed t

Ethnic Identity Profiles Among Adolescents in the ABCD Study: Associations with Resting State Functional Connectivity and Perceived Discrimination.

Ethnic identity refers to how individuals perceive and experience themselves in the context of social groups, racial background, or culture (Phinney & Ong., 2007). Ethnic identity is positively associated with psychological well-being (Rivas-Drake et al., 2014) and negatively associated with depression and anxiety (Forstmeier et al., 2021). Those with strong ethnic identity may display resiliency to the negative effects of discrimination on psychological well-being (Urzúa et al., 2021). Phinney's model describes four profiles for how people put effort into, participate in, and reflect upon the

A Bibliometric Analysis of Strabismus Research Literature : Strabismus Research Trends.

BACKGROUND: Background: Strabismus, a common ocular disorder marked by misalignment of the visual axes, can impair depth perception and visual function, while also affecting facial appearance and psychosocial wellbeing. In recent years, the field has seen a growing body of research focusing on its pathogenesis, risk factors, and therapeutic approaches. However, the literature is still fragmented, making it difficult to assess overarching trends. Therefore, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis is needed to understand research developments and identify emerging hotspots in this domain. MATERIA
