We examined the usefulness of allergen housedust-6 measurement in 44 patients (22 males and 22 females) with atopic dermatitis. The positivity for each of housedust HD-2 and HD-6 and that for each of D-1 and D-2 was well correlated in more than 90% of the patients (correlation coefficient > 0.85). A double-blind randomized placebo-controlled study comparing the effect of 2-dose levels of phenylpropanolamine (PPA) for acute rhinitis was performed in 180 outpatients. PPA was given in a fixed dose combination with paracetamol, chlorpheniramine and vitamin C. Two doses of each drug were given with a 4-h interval. Seven subjects, who experienced systemic allergic reactions after the ingestion of a newly marketed food supplement, were evaluated to identify the responsible ingredient. A technical modification was introduced by the manufacturer (Pharmacia) of a commercially available RAST, with the use of an anti-IgE antibody specific for the domain epsilon 2 of the IgE molecule. Thirty-two asthmatic children, mean age 9.6 years (range: 6-14 years), were studied by oral challenge with acetylsalicylic acid (Aspirin), and their PEFR was recorded at 30 min intervals for 3 hr. They had been asthmatic for a mean of 7.1 years.
