BACKGROUND: A 23-year-old man was involved in a motor vehicle crash and found to have bilateral locked facets at L5-S1. His neurologic examination, radiographic workup, surgical management, postoperative care, and the relevant literature are discussed.
DESIGN: Case report and literature review.
RESULTS: This patient underwent solid fusion with anatomic alignment following open reduction and internal fixation. He made a good neurologic recovery.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the value of rectangle titanium cage (SynCage-C) in the anterior cervical spine fusion.
METHODS: Nineteen patients underwent anterior cervical discectomy and interbody fusion using SynCage-C with average follow-up of 9 months.

The authors examine 83 consecutive cases of fracture and dislocation of the lower cervical spine submitted to surgery over a period of 5 years. Sixty-five patients were monitored with minimum 5-months follow-up, 5 died, 13 could not be traced. OBJECTIVE: Charcot joints of the spine as a cause of Autonomic Dysreflexia in spinal cord lesions.
SETTING: Stoke Mandeville Hospital, UK.
METHOD: Two patients with long standing spinal cord lesions developed symptoms of headaches and sweating associated with sitting up and transfers. In both cases no other cause was found to account for Autonomic Dysreflexia.

INTRODUCTION: Fracture/dislocation is uncommonly reported in ankylosing spondylitis involving the lumbosacral spine.
CLINICAL PICTURE: We report an 18-month follow-up of a case of neurologically unstable traumatic fracture of the lumbosacral spine in ankylosing spondylitis.
TREATMENT/OUTCOME: Posterior decompression, alar-transverse fusion and instrumentation were performed. Anterior diskectomy and fusion were done 6 weeks later. There was solid bony fusion on follow-up and the patient had improvement of 2 Frankel grades and was able to ambulate.

The sagittal spine of children with Arnold-Chiari I malformation with or without syringomyelia and associated scoliosis (ACS) has been poorly studied. A retrospective review of scoliosis secondary to ACS from three centers was undertaken. Sagittal and coronal plane variables were measured from standing radiographs. BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study is to investigate the usefulness of flexion and extension radiographs of the cervical spine for the acute evaluation of ligamentous injury in cases of awake blunt trauma.
