Tinnitus Practice Patterns in Korean University Hospitals: Findings from a 2025 Nationwide Survey and Comparison with 2013.

OBJECTIVES.: A 2013 nationwide survey described tinnitus management in Korean university hospitals. Since then, conceptual frameworks have broadened, and new therapies have emerged. We aimed to investigate tinnitus practice patterns among Korean university hospital otologists in 2025 and compared them with the findings in 2013. METHODS.: A cross-sectional electronic survey was distributed in October 2025 to otologists registered with the Tinnitus Study Group of the Korean Otologic Society. We assessed classification, diagnostic work-up, treatment strategies, hearing-aid fitting, and perceived

Corneal Thickness, Curvature and Topographic Indices: Implications for Keratoconus Screening in a South African University Clinic Population.

BACKGROUND: Keratoconus (KC) is a progressive corneal ectatic disorder characterised by thinning and irregular steepening, which may lead to visual impairment if not detected early. Most diagnostic thresholds are derived from non-African populations, limiting their relevance in local settings. AIM: To profile corneal thickness, curvature, eccentricity and topographic indices, and assess their implications for keratoconus screening in a South African university clinic population. METHODS: A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted using clinical data from patients attending a universi

Effects of regular physical exercise on ejaculatory control: a comparative and interventional study among male university students.

BACKGROUND: Intravaginal ejaculatory latency time (IELT) is a key indicator for evaluating premature ejaculation (PE). While physical exercise is beneficial for male sexual health, evidence specifically linking structured exercise programs to IELT improvement is limited. AIM: To compare IELT between athletes and non-athletes, and to examine whether a 3-month guided structured exercise program improves IELT in non-athletes. METHODS: A mixed-design study included 67 male university students (30 athletes, 37 non-athletes). Non-athletes underwent a 3-month, guided, home-based structured exercise

Insensitivity as an Adaptive Psychological Resource for Mental Health: Development and Validation of a Scale Among Chinese University Students.

Depression and other mental health problems are increasingly prevalent among university students, highlighting the need to identify psychological resources that support mental well-being and early prevention. Adaptive Insensitivity has recently been proposed as a potentially adaptive psychological resource; however, no validated instrument is currently available to assess this construct. This study developed and validated the Insensitivity Scale (IS) among Chinese university students and further examined the mediating role of rumination in the relationship between insensitivity and depressive

Case Report: Dupilumab in difficult-to-treat bullous pemphigoid at the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Kiel.

Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is the most common autoimmune blistering disease affecting the skin. It is characterized by a type 2 immune-mediated pathogenesis. BP predominantly affects elderly patients who have multiple comorbidities, and treatment can be particularly challenging in refractory cases or when standard immunosuppressive therapies are limited due to toxicity or contraindications. Here, we present a case series of five patients with confirmed BP who were treated with off-label dupilumab. All five patients achieved sustained clinical improvement with dupilumab treatment, including reduct

Reconceptualising Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for global distributive justice: The case of the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative.

Since its inclusion in the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015, the global health target of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) has largely stalled. This article contends that one of the reasons for this lacking progress refers to the fact that the current definition of UHC does not sufficiently account for the transnational realities of global health. This article seeks to develop a more conceptually robust understanding of what UHC is, and what is normatively required to achieve it. In this context, the article proposes a novel definition of UHC that is adapted to the transnational r

Adapting Italian Healthcare to migration and cultural diversity: educational lessons from an exploratory survey at the University of Udine.

INTRODUCTION: Globalization and increasing migration flows have profoundly reshaped demographic and health landscapes in Europe. Physicians are now required to integrate not only biomedical expertise but also cultural competence and knowledge of global disease patterns. Tropical Medicine (TropMed) and Migration Medicine (MigMed) represent two complementary domains bridging infectious disease expertise with social and intercultural dimensions of care. Despite their relevance, several studies highlight significant educational gaps in these fields across Europe. METHODS: We conducted an explorat

Educational impact on women's HIV knowledge and stigma beliefs: evidence from universal primary education in Malawi.

This paper examines the impact of education on women's comprehensive knowledge of HIV and stigma in Malawi, utilizing data from three waves of the nationally representative Malawi Demographic Health Survey. Education plays a critical role in improving health knowledge and countering misinformation, as underscored by SDG3. Our study employs the universal primary education policy implemented in 1994 as an instrumental variable, revealing that women affected by the reform experienced improvements in their education. We find that each additional year of schooling increases the likelihood of women

Attitudes Toward Sex-Specific Versus Universal Newborn Screening for X-Linked Adrenoleukodystrophy in Hong Kong.

X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) is the most common peroxisomal disorder and is associated with serious clinical consequences. While newborn screening (NBS) could facilitate early identification and timely intervention, its implementation for X-ALD remains controversial due to ethical concerns arising from its X-linked recessive inheritance pattern, particularly regarding female newborns. This study aims to explore the perspectives of healthcare professionals and the general public on NBS for X-ALD in Hong Kong. An online survey with 20 quantitative questions on ethical considerations was

Feasibility, challenges, and solutions for implementing targeted universal tuberculosis testing: perceptions of healthcare professionals in South Africa.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a leading cause of mortality, particularly among people with HIV (PWH). In South Africa, the targeted universal TB testing (TUTT) strategy was introduced to shift from symptom-based to symptom-agnostic screening to improve early case detection in PWH. However, limited research has explored provider perceptions of the TUTT strategy. We explored healthcare professionals’ perceptions of the introduction, feasibility, challenges, and potential solutions for implementing TUTT. METHODS: We conducted a qualitative study using in-depth interviews with 11 purposive
