Blau syndrome is a monogenic disease resulting from mutations in the pattern recognition receptor NOD2, and is phenotypically characterized by the triad of granulomatous polyarthritis, dermatitis and uveitis. Lymphoid malignancies may affect the eye either as primary intraocular lymphomas (PIOL), or by secondary involvement of a nodal lymphoma. PIOL is a subtype of primary central nervous system (CNS) lymphoma and in up to 98% of the cases are non-Hodgkin's B cell lymphomas. PIOL may occur in isolation, without involvement of the CNS. Ocular manifestations occur in 4-12% of patients with IBD. Uveitis and iritis are more frequently associated with ulcerative colitis while episcleritis is more common in Crohn's disease. We report the results of limbal lensectomy for ectopia lentis in 50 eyes of 30 children over a period of 7 years. The reasons for surgery were poor visual acuity in 47 eyes and dislocation of the lens into the anterior chamber in three. PURPOSE: The authors studied the safety of intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in patients with uveitis.
METHODS: The authors prospectively randomized 26 patients with chronic iridocyclitis (22 patients) or pars planitis (4 patients) to undergo IOL implantation or no IOL implantation at the time of cataract surgery.
RESULTS: There was no statistical difference in visual acuity results at 1 year between the two groups. There was a trend toward better visual acuity in patients with chronic iridocyclitis without IOLs. Cocoon-like dense fibrous membranes enveloped the IOL in two patients.

In 16 aphakic eyes (16 patients) with intact posterior capsule posterior chamber IOL implantation were performed. The average uncorrected vi … mm2. All but one patient achieved binocular vision postoperatively. No persistent corneal edema and uveitis were found. The results showed that secondary P. C IOL implantation in an aphakic eye with intact posterior capsule is effective and safe if the indications and techniques are well managed.

An association of bilateral panuveitis and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) was recognized in a case which had an acute onset of systemic JRA without ocular manifestations 3 years previously. On the present occasion she had no active systemic inflammation at the onset of panuveitis.
