Perceived Feasibility of Nurse-Led Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Cancer Pain.

PURPOSE: Experts have called for systematic implementation of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)-based interventions for cancer pain; however, implementation of CBT for cancer pain has been extremely limited. DESIGN: We explored nurses' perceptions of implementing a brief, evidence-based pain CBT protocol using a mixed-methods analysis. METHODS: Registered nurses working within ambulatory oncology/infusion clinics were recruited. Survey items and interviews focused on familiarity and current use of pain self-management strategies and attitudes toward the CBT protocol. We used univariate desc

Your team is counting on you: Digital gamification and team motivation in alcohol aftercare.

BACKGROUND: Relapse after inpatient treatment for alcohol dependence is frequent, particularly within the first three months post-discharge. Cognitive Bias Modification (CBM), and specifically alcohol Approach Bias Modification (ABM), has demonstrated benefits in inpatient care, but its efficacy for aftercare remains uncertain. METHODS: A two-phase research program was conducted. The pilot study tested the feasibility of a desktop-based, home-delivered ABM. A total of 308 patients were randomized into two intervention groups, differing in reminder intensity, or a control group without any int

Randomized controlled trial of a modular, transdiagnostic, cognitive-behavioral anxiety intervention versus primary care behavioral health treatment as usual.

Offering behavioral treatment for anxiety in primary care will help to address the anxiety treatment gap. Modular Anxiety Skills Training (MAST) is a transdiagnostic cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) intervention for Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) settings. This multi-site randomized controlled trial compared the effects of MAST versus PCBH treatment as usual (TAU), both delivered by frontline clinicians, on anxiety severity and impairment. Participants (N = 167, 70% male, 89% White, 9% Hispanic, M age 51 [16] years) were recruited from primary care at two Veterans Health Administratio

Attentional bias toward one's own body: A systematic review of eye-tracking studie.

Body dissatisfaction is prevalent and central to eating disorders. Cognitive-behavioral and sociocultural models suggest that maladaptive body-related schemas may bias visual attention toward one's own body. Eye-tracking provides a spatially precise method for quantifying gaze allocation, yet findings remain fragmented across populations and paradigms. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, we systematically reviewed 33 eye-tracking studies examining region-level visual attention to one's own body in eating disorder, subclinical, and nonclinical samples. Across paradigms, participants often allocat

Communication barriers in aftercare: a qualitative study of allogeneic stem cell transplant patients.

BACKGROUND: Effective communication between patients and healthcare providers is a crucial component in aftercare after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHSCT). Despite significant advances, unmet physical and psychological needs due to communication failures persist. OBJECTIVE: We performed a multicenter cross-sectional study assessing domains not communicated and underlying causes to identify and comprehend communication gaps in alloHSCT aftercare. STUDY DESIGN: Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with patients after alloHSCT at the transplant centres R

Non-pharmacological approaches for migraine management: a mini-review.

BACKGROUND: Migraine is a neurological condition resulting from intricate connections among cerebral excitability, the nervous system, muscular function, and the body's stress response. For various reasons, complementary and non-pharmacological interventions were explored for the management of migraine. METHODS: We conducted a targeted review of existing research using PubMed. Our search focused on studies that use various non-drug approaches, such as yoga, acupuncture, manual therapy, exercise, and behavioural therapies (e.g., biofeedback, cognitive behavioural therapy), that affect migraine

Medicolegal aspects of robotic-assisted surgery: litigation trends, complication risks, and human factors interventions.

Robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) sees over six million procedures performed annually. Malpractice claims involving RAS increased by more than 250% between the periods 2006-2013 and 2014-2021 [1]. Understanding the legal landscape, risk profile, and evidence-based mitigation strategies is critical for all stakeholders. This scoping review aimed to: (1) map medicolegal cases involving RAS; (2) quantify complication incidence (3) characterise general and procedure-specific risks; and (4) synthesise interventions capable of reducing adverse events and litigation exposure. A structured search of PubM

Iterative Virtual and Physical Simulation for Staged Separation of Total Vertical Craniopagus: The Avatar Patient Approach to Conjoined Twins.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Total vertical craniopagus represent one of the most complex craniofacial malformations and a demanding surgical challenge. Traditional imaging remains static and insufficient to fully anticipate dynamic venous redistribution during staged separation. We implemented an integrated virtual and physical simulation framework in the multistep separation of total vertical craniopagus twins, within an Avatar Patient Approach as an evolution of the Digital Twin Medicine approach focused on controlled physiological decoupling and operative risk reduction. METHODS: Multimodal

The Effect of Psychedelics on Associative Learning: a Systematic Review.

Psychedelics are emerging as potential treatments for neuropsychiatric conditions, with evidence suggesting a single administration can lead to enduring behavioural changes. While the underlying putative mechanism(s) remain unclear, there is evidence supporting altered learning as a key candidate. This systematic review examined studies assessing the effects of psychedelics on associative learning in humans and animals. Electronic databases were searched until 02/02/2026 for studies investigating differences in learning after classical psychedelic administration. 62 studies were included (2 hu

Regenerating smell in neurodegenerative disease -translating theory into therapy.

PURPOSE: Quantitative and qualitative olfactory dysfunction are one of the earliest and most prevalent symptoms across neurodegenerative diseases, notably Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. These pathologies may spread bidirectionally between the peripheral olfactory system and central brain regions, supporting a model in which the olfactory system represents both an early marker and a conduit for disease propagation. This short communication aims to investigate the potential of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to treat smell alteration in the neurodegenerative diseases. METHOD: We conducted a re

'The case for a pro-active approach to advance care planning in older person's mental health - insights from interdisciplinary mental healthcare professionals.

INTRODUCTION: Advance care planning (ACP) involves nuanced conversations to elicit an individual's beliefs, values, and preferences regarding future care. However, despite recognition of the positive impact, representative population surveys indicate low uptake of ACP, figures replicated internationally. Complex medical issues, including cognitive impairment, can interact with and exacerbate mental health challenges in later life, which can make decision-making more complex. ACP and Advance Healthcare Directives support people during periods of incapacitating mental illness. This paper reporti

Virtual Reality Induced Awe in Chronic Low Back Pain: A Mixed-Methods Study.

As emerging media technologies, virtual reality (VR) applications are used to elicit emotional engagement across various contexts-entertainment, education, therapy, training, marketing, and fitness, to name a few-often with the hope of effecting behavioral change. Within the healthcare domain, VR technologies have been successfully leveraged to manage acute pain, but understanding of their efficacy in managing chronic pain remains limited. Current models emphasize the necessity of examining discrete effects of VR across multiple dimensions of pain, particularly its emotional impact. An emotion
