PET/MRI in the Diagnosis of Hormone-Producing Pituitary Microadenoma: A Prospective Pilot Study.

This study was designed to evaluate the ability of PET/MRI, using 18F-FDG and 68Ga-DOTATATE as tracers, to detect hormone-producing pituitary microadenoma when diagnosis is difficult using MRI alone. Methods: We recruited 37 patients with elevated hormone levels, including 19 with undiagnosable primary pituitary adenoma and 18 with suspected recurrent pituitary adenoma. 18F-FDG PET/MRI and 68Ga-DOTATATE PET/MRI were performed within 1 wk of each other in all patients. Within 2 wk afterward, 27 of the 37 patients underwent transsphenoidal adenomectomy, 3 underwent sella region radiotherapy, 1 u

Effects of L-theanine on anxiety-like behavior, cerebrospinal fluid amino acid profile, and hippocampal activity in Wistar Kyoto rats.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: The amino acid L-theanine (N-ethyl-L-glutamine) has historically been considered a relaxing agent. In the present study, we examined the effects of repeated L-theanine administration on behavior, levels of amino acids in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and hippocampal activity in Wistar Kyoto (WKY) rats, an animal model of anxiety and depressive disorders. METHODS: Behavioral tests were performed after 7-10 days of L-theanine (0.4 mg kg-1 day-1) or saline administration, followed by CSF sampling for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis. An independen

Utility of FDG-PET imaging in screening for succinate dehydrogenase B and D mutation-related lesions.

OBJECTIVE: Mutations of the genes encoding succinate dehydrogenase B and D (SDHB, SDHD) are associated with highly penetrant phenotypes, including paragangliomas and phaeochromocytomas. Patients with these mutations require lifelong surveillance; however, there is currently ambiguity regarding the optimal screening regimen. We sought to determine the utility of fluorodeoxyglucose (18F) positron emission tomography (18F-FDG PET) imaging, compared to other modalities for detecting SDHB and SDHD mutation-related lesions. DESIGN: A retrospective audit of patients with SDHB or SDHD mutation. PATI

Neuropsychological and FDG-PET profiles in VGKC autoimmune limbic encephalitis.

BACKGROUND: Limbic encephalitis (LE) is characterized by an acute or subacute onset with memory impairments, confusional state, behavioral disorders, variably associated with seizures and dystonic movements. It is due to inflammatory processes that selectively affect the medial temporal lobe structures. Voltage-gate potassium channel (VGKC) autoantibodies are frequently observed. In this study, we assessed at the individual level FDG-PET brain metabolic dysfunctions and neuropsychological profiles in three autoimmune LE cases seropositive for neuronal VGKC-complex autoantibodies. Diagnostic utility of FDG-PET in neurolymphomatosis: report of five cases.

Neurolymphomatosis (NL) is a rare condition involving the infiltration of lymphoma cells into the peripheral nervous system. NL can be primary or secondary in the setting of an unknown or known hematologic malignancy, respectively. Here, we report five cases in which F-18 2-fluoro-2-deoxy-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (F-18 FDG-PET/CT) had great value for diagnosing NL. Two cases were rare primary NL, and the other three were secondary NL. Clinical presentations were asymmetric sensorimotor disturbances in the extremities with or without involvement of cranial nerves

Dose painting by numbers in a standard treatment planning system using inverted dose prescription maps.

BACKGROUND: Dose painting by numbers (DPBN) is a method to deliver an inhomogeneous tumor dose voxel-by-voxel with a prescription based on biological medical images. However, planning of DPBN is not supported by commercial treatment planning systems (TPS) today. Here, a straightforward method for DPBN with a standard TPS is presented. MATERIAL AND METHODS: DPBN tumor dose prescription maps were generated from (18)F-FDG-PET images applying a linear relationship between image voxel value and dose. An inverted DPBN prescription map was created and imported into a standard TPS where it was define

(Tissue PET) Vascular metabolic imaging and peripheral plasma biomarkers in the evolution of chronic aortic dissections.

AIMS: Despite adequate medical management, dissection of the descending aorta (type B) may develop complications, including aneurysmal progression and eventually rupture. Partial false lumen thrombosis has been identified as a marker of adverse evolution in chronic dissection. The aim of this study was to test the ability of complementary information, provided by (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose ((18)F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and peripheral biomarkers, to add pathophysiological significance and a prognostic value to morphological data. METHODS AND RESULTS: We ex

An FDG-PET/CT-positive lesion mimicking local recurrence of colon cancer 5 years after radical colectomy.

BACKGROUND: Radical resection of colorectal cancer yields satisfactory results. Even if the cancer recurs, long-term survival is expected through further surgical resection of the recurrent disease. For early detection of recurrent lesions, we routinely perform periodic blood tests and imaging studies, in which 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-glucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) plays an important role, for lesion differentiation. We encountered a case of a benign lesion, which had been clinically diagnosed as recurrence of resected colon cancer by FDG-PET/computed tomography (CT). CASE REPO
