Management of CLN1 Disease: International Clinical Consensus.

BACKGROUND: CLN1 disease (neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis type 1) is a rare, genetic, neurodegenerative lysosomal storage disorder caused by palmitoyl-protein thioesterase 1 (PPT1) enzyme deficiency. Clinical features include developmental delay, psychomotor regression, seizures, ataxia, movement disorders, visual impairment, and early death. In general, the later the age at symptom onset, the more protracted the disease course. We sought to evaluate current evidence and to develop expert practice consensus to support clinicians who have not previously encountered patients with this rare diseas

Patient experiences with isolated limb perfusion for malignant melanoma - A qualitative study.

PURPOSE: In recent years, the incidence of malignant melanoma has rapidly increased worldwide. Among patients with recurrences, approximately 5% develop in-transit metastases, which can potentially be treated with isolated limb perfusion (ILP). However, little is known about patient experiences with this treatment. A more thorough understanding might guide future research and clinical care. In this study, we aimed to describe patients' experiences of ILP treatment. METHODS: This study included eight patients who participated in a semi-structed interviewed, conducted at one occasion between 3

Female Sexual Health: Barriers to Optimal Outcomes and a Roadmap for Improved Patient-Clinician Communications.

BACKGROUND: Although sexual health can be considered a vital sign for overall health, several barriers prevent women from receiving proper medical counseling, support, and/or care for their sexual health needs and concerns. METHODS: Experts in sexual health compiled research and experience on the impediments to women receiving adequate assessment and treatment for their sexual health. Specific solutions and a roadmap for overcoming such barriers and improving patient-clinician communication are presented. RESULTS: Social stigma around female sexuality remains in Western culture and as a resu

Trans Collaborations Clinical Check-In (TC3): Initial Validation of a Clinical Measure for Transgender and Gender Diverse Adults Receiving Psychological Services.

One key aspect of evidence-based psychological services is monitoring progress to inform treatment decision making, often using a brief self-report measure. However, no such measure exists to support measurement-based care, given the distinct needs of transgender and gender diverse people (TGD), a group facing large documented health disparities and marginalization in health care. The purpose of the present study was to develop and provide initial psychometric validation of a short, behavioral health progress monitoring self-report measure, the Trans Collaborations Clinical Check-in (TC3). TGD

Community Guide Cardiovascular Disease Economic Reviews: Tailoring Methods to Ensure Utility of Findings.

The Community Preventive Services Task Force recommended five interventions for cardiovascular disease prevention between 2012 and 2015. Systematic economic reviews of these interventions faced challenges that made it difficult to generate meaningful policy and programmatic conclusions. This paper describes the methods used to assess, synthesize, and evaluate the economic evidence to generate reliable and useful economic conclusions and address the comparability of economic findings across interventions. Specifically, steps were taken to assess completeness of data and identify the components

Diagnosis and treatment of corticobasal degeneration.

Corticobasal degeneration is a pathologic entity. Presenting clinical phenotypes include corticobasal syndrome (CBS), frontal behavioral spatial syndrome, aphasia, progressive supranuclear palsy-like syndrome (PSPS), and a predominantly cognitive phenotype often mistaken for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Treatment of CBD is symptomatic, particularly given recently negative neuroprotective studies. Given the relentless progression in CBD, all interested patients should be offered the opportunity to enroll in clinical neuroprotective trials as they arise. For symptomatic therapy, treatment options a

Development and Preliminary Evaluation of an AI-Assisted Clinical Decision Support System for Personalized Musculo-Skeletal Pain Management in Integrative Nursing Practice.

Background/Objectives: Musculoskeletal pain is a common condition that negatively affects quality of life and functional capacity. Integrative nursing emphasizes patient-centered and non-pharmacological approaches; however, variability in clinical decision-making persists due to reliance on clinician experience. This study aimed to design, retrospectively train, and evaluate the preliminary feasibility of a machine learning-based clinical decision support framework for personalized pain management within an integrative nursing approach in a Traditional and Complementary Medicine setting. From diagnosis to daily life: a qualitative investigation into patients' lived experiences of pre-diabetes diagnosis and care in a primary care setting in Singapore.

INTRODUCTION: The prevalence of pre-diabetes mellitus (pre-diabetes, pre-DM) is increasing globally, with 5%-10% of adults with pre-DM progressing to type 2 DM (T2DM) annually. Despite the availability of national screening programmes and lifestyle interventions, uptake remains suboptimal and the lived experiences of individuals navigating pre-DM diagnosis and care in Singapore remain poorly understood. Understanding these experiences is critical, as patient perspectives can reveal gaps in care delivery, particularly in a multiethnic population where cultural, social and systemic factors inter

Practical recommendations for calcium channel antagonist poisoning.

Calcium channel antagonists (CCAs) are widely used for different cardiovascular disorders. At therapeutic doses, CCAs have a favourable side effect profile. However, in overdose, CCAs can cause serious complications, such as severe hypotension and bradycardia. Patients in whom a moderate to severe intoxication is anticipated should be observed in a monitored setting for at least 12 hours if an immediate-release formulation is ingested, and at least 24 hours when a sustained-release formulation (or amlodipine) is involved, even if the patient is asymptomatic. Initial treatment is aimed at gastr

The impact of oral diseases on the quality of life of patients attending the oral medicine clinic at a dental specialty centre.

Oral mucosal diseases (OMDs) are common and can severely affect quality of life through pain, functional limitations, and psychological distress. Their prevalence is influenced by lifestyle, socioeconomic factors, and healthcare access, making early diagnosis and effective management essential for improving patient outcomes. To assess OHRQoL in individuals affected by a variety of OMDs, examine the influence of demographic and clinical characteristics on quality-of-life outcomes, and provide insights into the factors most strongly associated with OHRQoL in this population. This cross-sectional
