A rare condition similar to inguinal hernia in pregnancy: A case of bilateral varicose veins of round ligament of uterus.

Round ligament varicosities (RLV) are a very rare cause of an inguinal mass, which is very similar to an inguinal hernia, and should be taken seriously by women, especially in mid-pregnancy. Ultrasound can confirm the diagnosis of the RLV and can prevent unnecessary interventions. We report a case of a patient with bilateral RLV: the primigravida was 31 years old, G1P0, gestation 30+2w. The patient presented to the clinic 1 month ago due to the discovery of bilateral inguinal masses. After the diagnosis was confirmed by ultrasound, this patient received regular reviews during labor and deliver

Identical anatomy, different symptoms: a comparative case study of median arcuate ligament syndrome in monozygotic twins.

Median arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS) is a rare clinical entity arising from the extrinsic compression of the coeliac axis by the median arcuate ligament. In this report, we detail a unique presentation involving monozygotic twins, both of whom demonstrated anatomical extrinsic compression of the coeliac axis by the median arcuate ligament. Intriguingly, only one twin manifested clinical symptoms consistent with MALS, despite comparable anatomical compression of the coeliac axis observed in both. This case highlights the potential interplay of a genetic or anatomical predisposition to coelia

A rare presentation of inguinal mass in postmenopausal women: leiomyoma of round ligament mimicking an irreducible inguinal hernia.

Tumors of the round ligament rarely happen; leiomyomas are considered the most common. Round ligament leiomyomas are benign tumors mimicking inguinal hernia, lymph nodes, or other inguinal masses. They are usually asymptomatic and take place in premenopausal female patients. This paper will present a case of a postmenopausal female patient who presented to our outpatient surgical clinic complaining of a right groin mass for 3 months. She was clinically diagnosed as a case of an irreducible inguinal hernia. After investigations, it turned out to be a round ligament leiomyoma, confirmed by the h

LRP6/filamentous-actin signaling facilitates osteogenic commitment in mechanically induced periodontal ligament stem cells.

BACKGROUND: Mechanotransduction mechanisms whereby periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) translate mechanical stress into biochemical signals and thereby trigger osteogenic programs necessary for alveolar bone remodeling are being deciphered. Low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 6 (LRP6), a Wnt transmembrane receptor, has been qualified as a key monitor for mechanical cues. However, the role of LRP6 in the mechanotransduction of mechanically induced PDLSCs remains obscure. METHODS: The Tension System and tooth movement model were established to determine the expression profile

Ramp Tear among Patients Undergoing Arthroscopic Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction in a Tertiary Care Centre.

INTRODUCTION: Ramp tear is a specific injury that affects the posterior horn of the medial meniscus and its meniscosynovial or meniscocapsular attachments. The actual prevalence of ramp lesion is unknown due to the high probability of misdiagnosis or underdiagnosis caused by the low sensitivity of imaging modalities and poor visualization during arthroscopy. This study aimed to find out the prevalence of ramp tear among patients undergoing arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction in a tertiary care centre. METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among patients

Association Between Posterior Tibial Slope and Clinical Outcomes After Isolated Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstructions.

Background Increased posterior tibial slope (PTS) is an important risk factor for non-traumatic graft failure and revision surgery after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. If a tibial posterior slope is an important factor for graft failure after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, does it affect clinical outcomes? This study aimed to evaluate the association between PTS and clinical outcomes after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. Material and methods Patients undergoing arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with hamstring tendons in the clinic were ev

Characteristics of the cervical spine and cervical cord injuries in older adults with cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament.

Although the incidence of cervical spinal cord injury (CSCI) with ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) has increased in older adults, its etiology and neurological outcomes remain unknown. We identified OPLL characteristics and determined whether they influence neurological severity and improvement of CSCI in older patients. This multicenter retrospective cohort study identified 1512 patients aged ≥ 65 years diagnosed with CSCI on admission during 2010-2020. We analyzed CSCI etiology in OPLL patients. We performed propensity score-adjusted analyses to compare neurological

Supradiaphragmatic origin of the celiac trunk leading to median arcuate ligament syndrome with superior mesenteric artery involvement.

Median arcuate ligament (MAL) syndrome (MALS) is a rare condition caused by compression of the celiac artery by the MAL. Symptoms include abdominal pain, nausea, and weight loss. Rarely, the MAL can compress both the celiac artery and the superior mesenteric artery (SMA). We describe the case of a young man with MALS involving the celiac artery and SMA. Laparoscopic release of the MAL was performed, and the patient had resolution of his symptoms at 6 months of follow-up. A review of the literature identified only six cases of MALS involving the SMA and celiac artery, making this a rare occurre

Revision anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using the ipsilateral Quadriceps tendon autograft: a modular reconstructive option.

PURPOSE: Failed ACL reconstruction is a common occurrence nowadays due to the increased incidence of ACL surgeries and return to full activities following the surgery. Several challenges might stand in the face of this revision surgery particularly the graft harvest and its suitability to the situation with possible widening of the tunnel and the avoidance of additional morbidity at the contralateral side or anterior knee pain as in patellar tendon harvest. The aim of this study is to evaluate the ipsilateral quadriceps tendon as a source of autograft in revision ACL surgery which constitutes

[Return to Sport (RTS) After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: Which Factors Influence the RTS Decision?].

BACKGROUND: It is unknown which valid criteria should be considered to justify the decision for return to sport (RTS) following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). The research question is whether gender, age, the outcome of the isokinetic maximal strength measurement and the single-leg hop test (quantitative/qualitative) influence the decision for RTS nine months after ACLR. METHODS: This study is a retrospective data analysis. The research question was evaluated with a multiple logistic regression analysis (MLR). The dependent variable, RTS yes/no, is based on the decision of

Longitudinal Changes in Quadriceps Morphology over the First 3 Months after Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction.

PURPOSE: Neuromuscular deficits and atrophy after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) may be accompanied by changes in muscle composition and poor quadriceps muscle quality (QMQ). Quadriceps atrophy occurs after ACLR but improves within the first three postoperative months, yet this hypertrophy could be attributable to increases in noncontractile tissue (i.e., poor QMQ). The purposes of this study were to evaluate changes in QMQ after ACLR and to determine if changes in QMQ and cross-sectional area (CSA) occur in parallel or independently. METHODS: A longitudinal prospective coho

Characterization of the L4/L5 rat facet capsular ligament macromechanical and microstructural responses to tensile failure loading.

Low back pain is a prevalent condition that affects the global population. The lumbar facet capsular ligament is a source of pain since the collagenous tissue of the ligament is innervated with sensory neurons that deform with the capsule's stretch. Regional differences in the microstructural and macrostructural anatomy of the spinal facets affect its capsule's mechanical behavior. Although there are many studies of the cervical facet in human and rodent models, the lumbar capsular ligament's multiscale behavior is less well-defined. This study characterizes the macroscale and fiber-scale chan
