Frontline Social Service Workers' Experiences Supporting Sexual and Reproductive Health of People Who Have Been Incarcerated.

BACKGROUND: Research on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care among women and gender-diverse people in prisons in Canada demonstrates gaps in access to health information and institutional barriers to care. Women and gender-diverse people leaving prison often access community supports provided by non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The experiences, needs and skills of staff at these organizations with respect to supporting client SRH are under-researched. METHODS: This study followed a community-based design involving four qualitative focus groups at partner organization sites, for a t

Using a Nature-Based Mindfulness Intervention to Improve Mental Health in Nurse Anesthesia Students: A Pilot Study.

Resident registered nurse anesthetists (RRNAs) face high levels of depression, anxiety, and stress (DAS) due to the academic, clinical, and financial demands of graduate anesthesia education. Nature-based mindfulness, which integrates nature exposure with mindfulness practices, has shown promise in reducing psychological distress but remains underexplored among RRNAs. This single-arm pilot, pre-/posttest study evaluated the effectiveness of a nature-based mindfulness intervention (NBMI) on DAS in a cohort of third-year RRNAs in the southeastern United States. The 8-week intervention included g

Sources of Knowledge, Family and Peer Support, Disclosure, and Posting on Social Media Platforms Among Patients with Systemic Autoimmune Rheumatic Diseases (SARDs): A Survey-Based Cross-Sectional Study.

Systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (SARDs), like rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus, impose significant burdens on patients. This cross-sectional survey explores knowledge sources about SARDs, emotional and practical support from family and peers, and willingness to disclose their condition publicly, particularly through social media, among a Middle Eastern population. A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted at the University Hospital (Abha), the University Hospital (Makkah), and Alhabib Private Hospital (Jeddah), involving 301 adults aged 18 to 50 with SARDs.

BEnefit of HYpnosis on Pain during stitches in an Emergency Room: a study protocol using a randomised controlled trial - the BE-HYPER protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Wounds are one of the most common causes of emergency department visits. Their care often involves stitches, a potentially painful and stressful procedure. Pain and stress management is usually based on local anaesthesia, which is not always optimal. Medical hypnosis may offer a non-pharmacological alternative. Heart rate variability is a pain-free, easy-to-use and objective biomarker of stress. This study aims to assess the benefit of hypnosis on stress and pain during stitching using a randomised controlled trial. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This is a single-centre, randomised contr

Exploring Implementation of Cantonese Radio Broadcasting as a Mental Health Promotion Initiative for Linguistically Isolated Immigrants.

Digital-first public health efforts often miss linguistically isolated immigrant communities because of structural barriers and stigma. Ethnic legacy media can reach these groups, but keeping programs funded and operational over the long term is frequently difficult. This Practice Note examines a Cantonese-language radio health program in "Los Angeles County" that ran 128 live broadcasts across a full 12-year Chinese zodiac cycle. Instead of a top-down clinical model, the show endured by acting as an informal community navigation hub. We examine two recurring administrative frictions: anonymou

Clinical presentations and treatment outcomes between bi+, gay/lesbian, and heterosexual adults with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Sexual minority people are at increased risk of psychopathology, including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), compared with heterosexual people. Prior research has found that sexual minority people are more likely to be diagnosed with or treated for OCD compared with their heterosexual peers, and sexual minority people represent a substantial portion of those in OCD treatment. As such, it is critical to examine potential sexual orientation differences in clinical presentation and treatment outcomes among people with OCD. Among 437 patients in treatment for OCD, we examined OCD severity and r

Posttraumatic Growth as a Pathway to Wellness for Individuals and Organizations.

Posttraumatic growth (PTG) offers an alternative understanding of trauma response, contrasting with traditional perspectives focused solely on symptom development and resilience. In the PTG model, individuals and groups report positive changes in life philosophy, self-understanding, and interpersonal relationships because of successfully navigating the struggles involved with experiencing adversity. This narrative review includes the evolution of PTG theory, highlighting the disruption of core beliefs, the role of rumination, and the reconstruction of a life narrative as central mechanisms of

Comprehensive Rehabilitation for Autosomal Dominant Retinitis Pigmentosa: A Case Report.

A 62-year-old female with retinitis pigmentosa presented for a low vision rehabilitation evaluation. An updated spectacle prescription, filters, and task lighting were beneficial, but the patient was left with outstanding needs. She noted that she had lost her independence and felt trapped within her own home with nobody around who could fully understand her situation. Genetic testing confirmed autosomal dominant retinitis pigmentosa and provided answers regarding prognosis and family tree considerations. White cane mobility training allowed her to be more independent when traveling. Independe

A pediatric rehabilitation therapy audit study: A brief report.

PurposeChildren with disabilities benefit from physical, occupational, and speech therapy, but families identify unmet needs for these services. The purpose of this study was to audit access to therapy services in a tri-state region. It was hypothesized that children who were publicly insured and children from minoritized identity groups would face greater access barriers and longer wait times than children covered by private insurance and non-minoritized White children.MethodsThis prospective audit study utilized callers who posed as mothers seeking outpatient therapy services for their child

WAIS-IV Cognitive Profiles in Italian University Students with Dyslexia.

This study investigated the cognitive profiles of Italian university students with dyslexia using the WAIS-IV, comparing them to peers without specific learning disorders. Seventy-one participants took part: 36 with a diagnosis of dyslexia and 35 matched controls. While dyslexic adults showed lower Full Scale IQ (FSIQ) scores compared to controls, their scores remained within the average range. They showed deficits in Working Memory Index (WMI) and Processing Speed Index (PSI) but performed similarly to controls in Verbal Comprehension Index (VCI) and Perceptual Reasoning Index (PRI). Electroencephalography-Based Machine Learning for Biomarker Detection in Dyslexia and Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Comparative Review of Models, Features, and Diagnostic Utility.

To uncover neurobiological indicators related to autism spectrum disorders and developmental dyslexia, this article gives a full overview of the most recent advances in machine learning and deep learning methods based on electroencephalography. We look into methodological pipelines that include signal gathering, preprocessing, feature engineering, model selection, and interpretability procedures. We based these pipelines on 15 peer-reviewed research papers published between 2013 and 2025. Most of the research employed the 10-20 system for resting-state EEG and followed MATLAB, MNE-Python, or E

Perceived social support according to the type and number of addictions.

BACKGROUND: Addiction is very closely related to social determinants. It can be an outcome of the excessive consumption pushed by society and be protected against by society's many positive dimensions. The main objectives of the present paper are to examine whether perceived social support (PSS) - the perceived availability of others to provide us assistance when needed - varies (a) according to different types of addiction (i.e., gambling, gaming, alcohol, cannabis, and nicotine), and (b) according to the presence of multiple addictions. METHODS: A sample of 5654 male emerging adults (mean a

Personal relationships during and after an initial psychotic episode. First-person experiences.

BACKGROUND: Psychosis is often associated with loneliness, the absence of a confidant and a perceived lack of social support. In addition, the social isolation and solitude experienced can aggravate internalised stigma, depressive symptoms and/or suicidal tendencies, and worsen the course of the disorder. AIM: This study explores the experiences and perceptions of persons with psychosis concerning how their interpersonal relationships have evolved from the earliest symptoms of the disorder to its subsequent clinical stabilisation. METHOD: A qualitative content analysis was performed of the f
