Psychometric Evaluation and Refinement of the Level of Personality Functioning Scale-Self Report: Development of the LPFS-SR Short-Forms.

The DSM-5 Alternative Model for Personality Disorders (AMPD) provides a dimensional framework for assessing personality dysfunction, and the Level of Personality Functioning Scale-Self Report (LPFS-SR) is a widely used instrument for evaluating the construct. However, its psychometric properties and practical feasibility remain areas of concern due to its extensive item length and structural misspecification. A sample of 344 participants was recruited to assess the psychometric properties of the LPFS-SR using bifactor modeling and item response theory (IRT) analyses. We replicated general fact

Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease: Epidemiology, Screening, Prevention, and Therapeutic Interventions.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and the burden is particularly severe in low-income and middle-income countries. Although traditional risk factors such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, and smoking have been well established, new research evidence indicates that inflammation, environmental exposure, psychological and social stress, gut microbiota, and genetic susceptibility play a crucial role in shaping the risk profile of CVDs. This review comprehensively summarizes the epidemiology, pathophysiological mechanisms, screening

Digital technology anxiety and teacher digital literacy development: a longitudinal examination of cognitive appraisal mechanisms.

This study examines how teacher digital technology anxiety influences digital literacy development through cognitive appraisal mechanisms. Employing a three-wave longitudinal design spanning one academic year, we surveyed 1,247 in-service teachers across urban, suburban, and rural schools in China at six-month intervals. Cross-lagged panel modeling revealed that digital technology anxiety significantly predicted subsequent decreases in digital literacy development, with this relationship demonstrating temporal precedence over reverse pathways. Mediation analyses grounded in cognitive appraisal

From stress to feedback: How supervisor perfectionism drives graduate students' feedback seeking and avoiding behaviors.

As academic competition intensifies, graduate students are facing increasing psychological pressure in high-stress academic environments, which negatively influences both their mental well-being and academic performance. However, there are still certain gaps regarding how supervisor perfectionism influences student feedback behaviors. This study explores how supervisor perfectionism influences student feedback behavior through their perceived stress and examines the moderating role of supervisor-student exchange quality in this process. Based on the cognitive appraisal theory of stress, this r

Implicit representations of red color in Chinese culture.

Red color is viewed as an important symbol of Chinese culture and used as a convenient tool to represent multiple concepts (i.e., happiness, wedding, and the modern Chinese polity) in Chinese daily life. However, whether the practical linkages of red color to these concepts involve profound psychological implication has not yet been fully investigated. Based on the Stroop paradigm, the present study systematically examined the implicit association strength between red color and its Chinese culture-endowed conceptual associates (i.e., happiness, wedding, and the modern Chinese polity) in Chines

Charting new territories in cardiac care intensive care rehabilitation and the enduring impact on post-acute cardiac event outcomes.

Cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) survivors face significant morbidity and mortality after hospital discharge. Many develop new or worsening physical, cognitive, or psychological impairments consistent with post-intensive care syndrome (PICS). Our current knowledge regarding the epidemiology of and risk factors for PICS is largely derived from general intensive care unit (ICU) cohorts. CICU care includes distinct exposures and pathophysiologic characteristics, including cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrest, temporary mechanical circulatory support, and complex cardiovascular interventions that m

Motivators and Barriers to Research Participation in Adult Burns Survivors.

Adults living with burn injury often experience ongoing physical, social, and psychological impacts, yet relatively little is known about how these experiences shape their decisions to participate in burns-related research. This qualitative study aimed to explore the barriers and motivators of research participation among 24 adult burn survivors who took part in a two-hour Community Conversation using a condensed World Café approach. Thematic analysis generated five themes describing motivators (19 sub-themes) and four themes describing barriers (14 sub-themes). Willingness to participate in b

Engagement of Social Support Systems in Patients Being Considered for and Following Advanced Heart and Lung Surgical Therapies: An ISHLT Expert Consensus Statement.

Social support systems, particularly caregivers, play a critical role in the evaluation, treatment, and recovery of patients undergoing heart or lung transplantation or left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation. However, definitions, assessment practices, and expectations for social support vary considerably across programs, and evidence guiding optimal caregiver engagement remains limited. This International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation expert consensus statement summarizes current evidence and provides recommendations for assessing, engaging, and supporting social supp

Nerves at work: Mental health in the British Post Office in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The late 19th century witnessed a growing concern about the rising incidence of nervous disorders. Sociologists explained this with reference to the impacts of urbanisation, industrialisation and modernity. Medical practitioners identified psychological and physiological explanations for nervous disorders, focussing on a constellation of symptoms that became known as neurasthenia. While many commentators considered neurasthenia a condition of the middle classes, there was growing evidence that nervous disorders affected a wide range of the social spectrum, including the working class. We explo

Challenges in diagnosis and treatment of pediatric psoriasis and atopic dermatitis.

Psoriasis and atopic dermatitis are prevalent skin conditions affecting many children, each driven by distinct immunological pathways. Psoriasis is characterized by the activation of the Th17/IL-17/IL-23 axis, leading to rapid skin cell proliferation and the formation of thick, scaly plaques. In contrast, atopic dermatitis is primarily driven by the Th2/IL-4/IL-13 pathway, resulting in intense itching and disruption of the skin's protective barrier. The overlapping symptoms and atypical presentations of these conditions in children often complicate diagnosis and treatment. This article explore

Phubbing Behaviour: A Bibliometric Analysis of Scientific Production.

Phubbing refers to the act of ignoring someone in a face-to-face conversation by paying more attention to a mobile phone. This practice, although common, has been identified as harmful and deserves to be considered a problem. As a result, it has captured the attention of the scientific community, with a significant increase in studies in recent years. However, there is a lack of bibliometric analyses examining existing research on this topic, which would be useful in guiding future studies. This article seeks to fill that gap by providing a detailed bibliometric analysis of phubbing. It analys

Mindful bridge: Brief mindfulness practices alter negative emotion transmission and cooperative performance in parent-adolescent dynamics.

Parent-adolescent emotion transmission is crucial for adolescents' psychological development. Parental negative emotions could impair parent-adolescent interaction and relationships. Brief mindfulness practices (BMPs) are effective for improving emotional regulation and reducing negative emotions. However, few studies explored the effects of BMP on parent-adolescent negative emotion transmission. This study used the hyperscanning technique to examine the differences in the change of emotional states, cooperative performance, and interbrain synchrony (IBS) between the BMP group (20 parent-adole
