Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen that causes increased morbidity and mortality in risky patient groups. Nowadays, carbapenem resistance has become a threat and resistance genes are spreading among species through mobile genetic elements. The dissemination of carbapenemases among P.aeruginosa is a serious public health concern due to its limited options for the treatment of bacterial infections. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the molecular epidemiology of 47 carbapenem resistant P.aeruginosa (CRPA) isolates derived from various clinical samples from the Central La

PURPOSE: Antimicrobial resistance is a pressing issue in Ukraine, with healthcare-associated infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms being a major concern. A recent prospective multicenter study revealed a staggering rate of 48.4% antimicrobial resistance to carbapenems among Enterobacterales causing a healthcare-associated infection. We conducted a systematic survey to investigate the incidence rate and incidence density of carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacteria (CPGN) among refugees and war-wounded Ukrainians in connection with the German health system.

BACKGROUND: Klebsiella pneumoniae is one of the main pathogens of clinical isolation and nosocomial infections, as K. pneumoniae show broad-spectrum resistance to β-lactam and carbapenem antibiotics. It is emerging clinical need for a safe and effective drug to anti-K. pneumoniae. At present, Achromobacter mainly focused on its degradation of petroleum hydrocarbons, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, assisting insects to decompose, degrade heavy metals and utilize organic matter, but there were few reports on the antibacterial activity of the secondary metabolites of Achromobacter.

Consolidated data from pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies support the administration of β-lactam antibiotics in prolonged infusion (i.e., extended or continuous) to optimize therapeutic efficacy by increasing the probability of attaining maximal bactericidal activity. This is the longest possible time during which the free drug concentrations are approximately four-fold the minimum inhibitory concentration between dosing intervals. In the context of antimicrobial stewardship strategies, achieving aggressive pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic targets is an important tool in the manage

This article describes the in vitro antibacterial and β-lactamase inhibition of a novel silver(I) complex with the sulfonamide probenecid (Ag-PROB). The formula Ag2C26H36N2O8S2·2H2O for the Ag-PROB complex was proposed based on elemental analysis. High-resolution mass spectrometric studies revealed the existence of the complex in its dimeric form. Infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopies and Density Functional Theory calculations indicated a bidentate coordination of probenecid to the silver ions by the oxygen atoms of the carboxylate. In vitro antibacterial activities of Ag-PROB sh

Fosfomycin is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including urinary tract infections caused by Escherichia coli. In recent years, quinolone-resistant and extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing bacteria have been increasing. Because fosfomycin is effective against many of these drug-resistant bacteria, the clinical importance of fosfomycin is increasing. Against this background, information on the mechanisms of resistance and the antimicrobial activity of this drug is desired to enhance the usefulness of fosfomycin therapy. In this study, we aimed to explore novel factors a

The global prevalence of infections caused by extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Enterobacterales (ESBL-E) is increasing, and for Escherichia coli, observations indicate that this is partly driven by community-onset cases. The ESBL-E population structure in the community is scarcely described, and data on risk factors for carriage are conflicting. Here, we report the prevalence and population structure of fecal ESBL-producing E. coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae (ESBL-Ec/Kp) in a general adult population, examine risk factors, and compare carriage isolates with contemporary clinical isolates

The spread of ESBL-producing Escherichia coli has constantly increased in both clinical and community infections. Actually, the main ESBL reported is the CTX-M family, which is widely disseminated between the Enterobacteriaceae family. The epidemiology of the CTX-M family shows the CTX-M-15 variant dominating worldwide, followed by CTX-M-14 and CTX-M-27. The specific ESBL-producing E. coli clones included mainly the sequence types ST131, ST405, and ST648. In this report, we present the molecular characterization of ESBL-producing E. coli clinical isolates from eight hospitals in Mexico. From a

Cefiderocol and aztreonam-avibactam (ATM-AVI) both had activity against carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacilli, including those that produce metallo-β-lactamases (MBLs). We compared the in vitro activities and inoculum effects of these antibiotics against carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE), especially MBL-producing isolates. The MICs of cefiderocol and ATM-AVI were determined using broth microdilution method for a 2016 to 2021 collection of Enterobacteriaceae isolates which produced MBL, KPC, or OXA-48-like carbapenemases. MICs with high bacteria inoculum were also evaluated

The paucity of information on the genomic diversity of drug-resistant bacteria in most food-producing animals, including poultry in Nigeria, has led to poor hazard characterization and the lack of critical control points to safeguard public health. Hence, this study used whole genome sequencing (WGS) to assess the presence and the diversity of antibiotic resistance genes, mobile genetic elements, virulence genes, and phages in Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase producing Escherichia coli (ESBL - E. coli) isolates obtained from poultry via the EURL guideline of 2017 in Ilorin, Nigeria. KPC-2 is one of the most relevant serine-carbapenemases among the carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales. We previously isolated from the environmental species Chromobacterium haemolyticum a class A CRH-1 β-lactamase displaying 69% amino acid sequence identity with KPC-2. The objective of this study was to analyze the kinetic behavior and crystallographic structure of this β-lactamase. Our results showed that CRH-1 can hydrolyze penicillins, cephalosporins (except ceftazidime), and carbapenems with similar efficacy compared to KPC-2. Inhibition kinetics showed that CRH-1 is not well inhibited b
