INTRODUCTION: Steatotic donor livers exhibit high graft failure rates after transplantation, primarily because of their increased vulnerability to ischemia‒reperfusion injury (IRI), in which ferroptosis serves as a critical pathological mechanism. STARD10, an evolutionarily conserved member of the steroidogenic acute regulatory lipid transfer (START/StARd) domain-containing protein family, is a hepatic-enriched lipid transport protein that mediates phospholipid transport and modulates plasma membrane composition and fluidity. However, the role of STARD10 in hepatic IRI under steatotic conditio

Medium-chain fatty acid (MCFA) production from waste activated sludge (WAS) is considered to rely on the syntrophic interactions among distinct functional microorganisms. Whether phages represent an overlooked ecological component involved in MCFA biosynthesis remains unclear. MCFA production is often inhibited by high total ammonia nitrogen (TAN). Conductive materials have been proposed as effective strategies to enhance or recover MCFA production under TAN stress. Therefore, the inhibition-recovery system could provide a useful framework for investigating whether viral ecological responses a

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a frequent comorbidity of obesity. Incretins have emerged as promising therapeutics for MASLD, but their exact mechanisms of action remain unclear. In this study with obese rats, we investigated the cellular effects of the glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist semaglutide and the neuropeptide Y-2 (NPY-2) receptor agonist peptide YY 3-36 (PYY3-36) on hepatic mitochondria with a focus on mitochondrial oxygen consumption and reactive oxygen species (ROS) emission. Following an 8-wk feeding period with a high-fat/fructose diet

INTRODUCTION: Obesity is a major public health concern worldwide and contributes to multiple metabolic disorders. Low carbohydrate diets (LCDs) have been proposed as an effective strategy for weight management and metabolic improvement; however, the mechanisms underlying LCD-induced molecular changes in individuals with obesity remain incompletely understood. This study aimed to assess the impact of a three-month LCD on the proteomic profile of adults with obesity.
METHODS: Thirty adults (18-50 years) with obesity (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2) followed an LCD (60-110 g/day) for 3 months. Anthropometric an

X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is an inherited peroxisomal disorder caused by pathogenic variants in the ABCD1 gene, encoding a peroxisomal membrane transporter required for the import of very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFA) into peroxisomes for degradation. ABCD1 deficiency leads to VLCFA accumulation in plasma and tissues. The resulting disease has a highly variable clinical presentation. In males, this manifests as cerebral demyelination, progressive myelopathy, and adrenal insufficiency, alone or in combination. Women predominantly develop myelopathy, while cerebral disease and adrenal

BACKGROUND: In aquaculture, disease outbreaks occur amidst complex husbandry factors like feeding schedule and incidental injury. The liver, a central immunometabolic organ, integrates these cues, but the systems-level transcriptional mechanisms governing its response to concurrent stress are poorly defined in channel catfish. We investigated how feeding status and physical injury modulate the hepatic transcriptome during early Aeromonas hydrophila infection in channel catfish.
RESULTS: Juvenile channel catfish were assigned to four treatment groups reflecting combinations of feeding status (

BACKGROUND: Individuals with diabetes are susceptible to cardiac dysfunction and heart failure, potentially resulting in mortality. Metabolic disorders frequently occur in patients with diabetes, and diabetes usually leads to remodeling of heart structure and cardiac dysfunction. However, the contribution and underlying mechanisms of metabolic and structural coupling in diabetic cardiac dysfunction remain elusive.
METHODS: Two mouse models of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) were used to assess alterations in glucose/lipid metabolism and cardiac structure. The potential metabolic-structural coupling mo

Functionalization of carbon-hydrogen (C-H) bonds has emerged as a powerful strategy in modern organic synthesis, offering efficient routes to build molecular complexity from simple and abundant substrates. Among various transition-metal catalysts, palladium(II) complexes have proven particularly versatile for C-H activation, owing to the diverse reactivity of carbon-palladium bonds. To advance this approach, the discovery of ligands that can accelerate C-H activation as well as subsequent steps in the catalytic cycle is the pivotal driving force. While ligand development has long been integral
