PURPOSE: The bispectral (BIS) index has been used to interpret electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings to predict the level of sedation and loss of consciousness in patients undergoing general anesthesia. BACKGROUND: Pediatric forearm fractures are common injuries in the pediatric emergency department (PED). Pediatric procedural sedation (PPS) is often required for forearm fracture reductions and pain control for casting.
