Faricimab at 6 and 12 mg reduces pigment epithelium detachment in treatment-resistant macular neovascularization: an OCT and AI analysis.

Macular neovascularization (MNV) in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) remains a therapeutic challenge, especially in eyes resistant to conventional anti-VEGF therapy. This study evaluates the anatomical and functional response to Faricimab in patients with persistent fluid despite intensified Aflibercept treatment and explores potential benefits of dose escalation. This cross-sectional study included 25 eyes from 23 patients with active MNV resistant to standard anti-VEGF therapy. All had persistent fluid on OCT despite monthly injections and received off-label double-volume Aflibercept 4

Integration of EMAP-II-targeted anti-angiogenesis and photodynamic therapy using zinc phthalocyanine nanosystem for enhanced cancer treatment.

Angiogenesis provides essential nutrients and oxygen to tumors during tumorigenesis, facilitating invasion and metastasis. Consequently, inhibiting tumor angiogenesis is an established strategy in anti-cancer therapy. In this study, we engineered a dual-function nanosystem with both antiangiogenic and photodynamic properties. We transformed the hydrophobic photosensitizer zinc phthalocyanine (PS) into a hydrophilic form via protein renaturation, resulting in a novel photosensitizer: Monocyte-Activating Polypeptide-II (EMAP-II:PS@NPs). Characterization through dynamic light scattering (DLS) and

Management and safety of same day bilateral intravitreal anti-VEGF injections in a treat-and-extend regimen.

BACKGROUND: Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) intravitreal injection treatment (IVT)s are gold standard for various neovascular retinal diseases, including neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), diabetic macular edema (DME), and macular edema due to retinal vein occlusion (RVO). Same day bilateral IVTs are commonly performed off-label worldwide to reduce patient burden, despite limited safety data. This study evaluates the safety and management of bilateral same day anti-VEGF injections within a treat-and-extend regimen (TER) and proposes a clinical guideline for coo

Predictors of response to a lapse in anti-VEGF treatment in patients with macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion.

BACKGROUND: Macular edema (ME) in the setting of retinal vein occlusions (RVO) is a common cause of vision loss worldwide. Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injections are the gold standard for ME secondary to RVO. Despite their efficacy, anti-VEGF injections carry significant burdens for patients, resulting in high rates of loss to follow-up and treatment lapses. METHODS: A sub-analysis examining the effects of a treatment lapse in RVO patients was conducted. Sixty patients were included and separated into vision-loss and stable-vision groups based on change in vision after
