Parenting in Moments: An Ecological Momentary Assessment of Parenting and Adolescent Substance Use and Externalizing Behaviors.

A large body of traditional survey and lab-based research has found that parenting behaviors are associated with risk for substance use (SU) and externalizing symptoms in adolescents. It is presumed that parenting effects on adolescent SU and symptoms unfold within families over moments in everyday life. However, this has rarely been tested. The present ecological momentary assessment (EMA) study tested within-person momentary associations among parenting, adolescent emotional and reward arousal, and SU and externalizing symptoms. Eighty-four 14-18 year olds completed five surveys per day for

Cytotoxicity of 2-chlorodeoxyadenosine and arabinosylcytosine in leukaemic lymphoblasts from paediatric patients: significance of cellular nucleoside transporter content.

UNLABELLED: Biobehavioral synchrony represents a dynamic interpersonal mechanism that influences parent and child depression risk via parent-child interactions, which may operate directly or in concert with depression-related impairments in parenting. We hypothesized that parent depressive symptoms and unsupportive emotion-related socialization behavior (ERSB) would negatively predict positive affect and physiological synchrony, and that these parent factors would moderate the effects of dyadic synchrony on daughters' depressive symptoms. Eighty parent (87.5% female)-daughter (M child age = 8.

Investigating Early Response to Treatment in a Multi-Site Study for Adolescent Bulimia Nervosa.

BACKGROUND: This secondary data analysis seeks to replicate and extend findings that early response to treatment in adolescent bulimia nervosa (BN) predicts outcome, resulting in earlier identification of patients who might need a different treatment approach. METHODS: Participants were 71 adolescents (M ± SD: 15.69 ± 1.55 years; 93% female; 75% non-Hispanic) with a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th Edition (DSM-IV) diagnosis of BN or partial BN enrolled in a two-site treatment study. Participants were randomized to cognitive behavioral therapy for adolescents (CBT-A)

Suicidal Ideation and Non-suicidal Self-injury in Early Adolescence: The Role of ADHD Symptoms, Affect, and Emotion Regulation.

BACKGROUND: Suicidal ideation and non-suicidal selfinjury (NSSI) are highly prevalent during early adolescence and represent serious public health concerns. Emotional dysregulation has been identified as a transdiagnostic factor underlying various risk behaviors, particularly in youth with externalizing difficulties such as attentiondeficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). While prior research has examined these factors independently, few studies have explored their joint and differential contribution to suicide-related outcomes in early adolescence. This study aimed to examine the association o

Disentangling PTSD and MDD: Examining temporal changes in symptoms during trauma-focused treatment.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) frequently co-occurs with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), yet little is known about the sequence of symptom changes in trauma-focused treatment for individuals with this comorbidity. This study used disaggregated cross-lagged multilevel models to examine the temporal relationships between PTSD and depression symptom change in a randomized clinical trial comparing cognitive processing therapy (CPT) and CPT enhanced with behavioral activation (BA+CPT). The sample included 78 U.S. active duty service members with comorbid PTSD and MDD. Symptoms were assessed

Sleep quality and hypertension: a counterfactual mediation analysis of the role of depressive symptoms.

Poor subjective sleep quality and moderate-to-severe depressive symptoms have both been associated with hypertension, but the extent to which depressive symptoms account for the sleep quality-hypertension association remains uncertain, particularly in community-based populations. This cross-sectional study analyzed data from 210,925 adults in the 2018 Korea Community Health Survey. Sleep quality was assessed with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and categorized as good or poor, while depressive symptoms were measured with the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 and dichotomized at a score of 10 t

Effect of modernized collaborative care for depression on individual depressive symptoms: A secondary analysis of the eIMPACT trial.

BACKGROUND: Depression affects over 400 million adults worldwide and is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. Although symptoms vary in their responsiveness to treatment, clinical trials typically report total scores, obscuring symptom-level effects. Despite collaborative care's effectiveness for depression in primary care, its impact on individual depressive symptoms among racially and socioeconomically diverse patients remains unclear. METHODS: We conducted a secondary analysis of the eIMPACT trial of 216 primary care patients (Mage = 59 years; 78% women; 50% Black; 46% with

Selectively counteracting cerebellar adaptations to chronic alcohol exposure reduces acute alcohol withdrawal severity in C57BL6/N mice.

A critical component of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) is alcohol (EtOH) withdrawal and consequent aversive withdrawal symptoms that generate negative reinforcement for renewed EtOH consumption to alleviate such symptoms. Here, we simulated human binge EtOH consumption and subsequent acute withdrawal by exposing male and female C57BL6/N mice to EtOH vapor for varying durations (24-72 h). During acute withdrawal, starting 4 h after removal from EtOH vapor, we used patch-clamp recording in cerebellar slices, combined with behavioral analysis of aversive somatic/motor (performance on the accelerating

Anxiety sensitivity as a transdiagnostic risk factor and mechanism of change in the treatment of youth anxiety disorders and OCD: Findings from the Unified Protocols for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders in Children and Adolescents.

Anxiety sensitivity, or fear of anxiety-related symptoms, is a "core dysfunction" associated with the development and maintenance of youth anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Accordingly, anxiety sensitivity is a common target of transdiagnostic cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) interventions, like the Unified Protocols for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders in Children and Adolescents (UP-C/A). However, no studies have empirically evaluated anxiety sensitivity as a mechanism of symptom change within UP-C/A treatment. This study examined anxiety sensitivit

Psychiatric and behavioral disorders in Parkinson's disease: co-pathogenic mechanisms of tau, Aβ, and α-synuclein proteins (narrative review).

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder affecting middle-aged and elderly individuals. Its clinical manifestations include both motor and non-motor symptoms. Traditionally, Lewy bodies (LBs), which are formed by misfolded α-synuclein (α-syn), have been regarded as the core pathological hallmark. It is believed that the selective damage to dopaminergic neurons in the nigrostriatal system by LBs constitutes the primary mechanism underlying motor symptoms. However, approximately 30-80 % of PD patients also experience psychiatric and behavioral disturbances, such as anxiety

The Invisible Burden: A Review of Neuropsychiatric Symptoms in Parkinson's Disease and the Role of Interdisciplinary Palliative Care Strategies.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons, resulting in many motor and non-motor symptoms. The motor manifestations of PD are often the focus of medical interventions, yet non-motor symptoms may be equally burdensome for patients and caregivers. Neuropsychiatric symptoms such as anxiety, depression, psychosis, cognitive and impulse control disorders are frequently underdiagnosed in PD, yet they constitute a significant burden on the patients and caregivers. Palliative care (PC) addresses the physical, psychosocial, and exi

Effectiveness and outcomes of digital telehealth third-wave cognitive behavioral therapy for depression and anxiety: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Third-wave Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) interventions, which integrate mindfulness and acceptance-based strategies, have demonstrated efficacy in reducing anxiety and depression. However, barriers such as cost and limited access to in-person therapy restrict widespread usage. Digital delivery of third-wave CBT provides a promising, cost-effective alternative. This meta-analysis aims to synthesize the evidence for the effectiveness of digital telehealth third-wave CBT interventions in reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety through a comprehensive search of randomized controlled trial
