PURPOSE: To present the application of various extraocular muscle surgery techniques to eliminate incyclotorsion induced by macular translocation.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Authors present surgical options and present the case of the patient in whom macular translocation was performed in Tübingen (Germany). Afterwards five strabismological surgeries were done: 2 in Tübingen and 3 in Department of Strabismology, Cracow District Eye Hospital.
RESULTS: At the end of strabismological treatment the patient was free of disabling image tilt and diplopia.

Hearing loss can be attributed to a variety of causes. In infants early detection of hearing loss coupled with an appropriate intervention is critical to their speech, language, cognitive and social development. Despite the fact that several methods exist to uncover hearing impairment beyond any doubt, permanent hearing loss in children is still being detected much too late in Germany. This calls for universal new-born hearing screening and adequate audiometric testing in children that their parents either suspect may suffer from a hearing problem or have other risk factors.

In the late summer of 1967 an epidemic in thirty-one patients in Germany and Yugoslavia of a disease transmitted from African green monkeys occurred; seven patients died. The incubation period was from 4 to 7 days. The main clinical features were headache, high fever, diarrhoea, a very characteristic rash, severe bleeding tendency and involvement of the central nervous system. Nearly all organs were involved and showed severe cell necroses. The aetiological agent was identified as an RNS-virus and was named Marburg virus. It was detected in the blood, urine, throat-washing and seminal fluid.
