Bridging the perception-practice gap: a mixed-methods study on interprofessional collaboration for diabetes and periodontitis management.

BACKGROUND: Diabetes and periodontitis have a bidirectional association, yet interprofessional collaboration (IPC) for their management remains inconsistent in clinical practice. Notably, national and international guidelines often omit oral health assessment from routine diabetes management. This study aims to assess primary care professionals’ perceptions of this association and their related management practices, and to explore the underlying barriers to low bidirectional screening and referral rates. METHODS: A sequential explanatory mixed methods design was used. Community medical practit

Exploring child and family-level influences on oral hygiene practices (OHP)-a qualitative study from South India.

Early childhood caries (ECC) is an oral health concern prevalent globally, and can be effectively prevented via improved oral health literacy and practices. Parental beliefs, attitudes and cultural factors widely influence children's adoption of oral hygiene practices (OHP). Recent literature has demonstrated a knowledge gap in parents and caregivers regarding these practices. This qualitative study explored the traditional oral health beliefs, perspectives and practices among parents and caregivers of children aged 0-3 years, both with and without ECC via 24 semi-structured interviews and 2 f

The effects of leg crossing and applied tension on blood donor return.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Repeated isometric muscle tension (applied tension) during blood donation reduces vasovagal symptoms in many donors. Experiencing vasovagal symptoms has been found to reduce blood donor return. However, does practicing applied tension improve blood donor return? Follow-up results from a randomized controlled trial are presented. METHODS: Data were collected in mobile clinics held in several colleges and universities. During the baseline donation, participants either (1) practiced 'standard' applied tension consisting of repeated 5 s cycles of whole-body isometric mu

Do gastroenterologists adhere to diagnostic and treatment guidelines for celiac disease?

AIM: Our group hypothesized that significant variation exists between suggested clinical guidelines, the clinical practices of practicing gastroenterologists and academic experts in celiac disease (CD). METHOD: We designed 4 CD vignettes comparing experts and practicing gastroenterologists. Practicing gastroenterologists (n=169) were surveyed during Digestive Disease Week 2009 and experts (n=22) answered e-mail surveys. Ratings for answers in each vignette was done using a 9-point RAND Appropriateness Scale (RAS) with endorsement defined as RAS score of 7 to 9. We also calculated the RAND "Di

Lack of benefit of a primary care-based nurse-led education programme for people with osteoarthritis of the knee.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the commonest cause of locomotor disability and forms a major element of the workload of the primary care team. There is evidence that patient education may improve quality of life, physical functioning, mental health and coping as well as reducing health service use. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a primary care-based patient education programme (PEP) using a randomised controlled trial. A cluster randomised controlled trial, involving 22 practices, was used to determine the efficacy of a nurse-led education programme. The programme consisted

Design Strategies and Advanced Research Methodologies of Iron-Group Transition Metal Electrocatalysts Toward Efficient Hydrogen Evolution in Water Splitting.

The electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in overall water splitting is one of the core technological pathways for green hydrogen production. Developing nonprecious metal electrocatalysts with high activity, low cost, and earth abundance is critical for promoting their large-scale practical application. Transition metal materials, especially Fe, Co, and Ni, have attracted extensive research interest due to their unique electron configurations, abundant tunable active sites, and excellent economic feasibility. This study focuses on Fe-group transition metal electrocatalysts toward t

Dutch breast reconstruction guideline.

Treatment of breast cancer is complex and multidisciplinary by nature, with protocols that are updated continuously. During preoperative multidisciplinary team meetings, regularly there is discussion between team members regarding optimal timing and type of breast reconstruction, due to conflicting interests of oncological and reconstructive treatments. Therefore, a multidisciplinary, evidence-based guideline for breast reconstruction in women undergoing breast conserving therapy or mastectomy for breast cancer, or following prophylactic mastectomy was developed by a multidisciplinary working
