We have investigated the immune status of patients with hematologic malignancies treated with a low intensity conditioning in preparation for allogeneic stem cell transplantation. Conditioning consisted of fludarabine, anti-T lymphocyte globulin and low-dose busulfan, followed by infusion of allogeneic blood stem cells. This protocol resulted in rapid engraftment and complete replacement of host with donor hematopoietic cells. The incidence of adenovirus (AV) infections following SCT was determined in a prospective multicenter trial. Over 1 year, 130 consecutive patients undergoing allogeneic SCT at Essen University Hospital were included and followed for 6 months. Source of stem cells was blood in 68 cases. We describe the risk factors for and the natural history and response to treatment of extramedullary (EM) relapse in 183 patients who underwent allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (alloBMT) for a variety of haematological malignancies at our institution over a 7 1/2 year period. The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence of veno-occlusive disease (VOD) after a high-dose regimen of busulfan, melphalan, and thiotepa and the risk factors for a more severe outcome. PURPOSE: Clonal hematopoiesis (CH) can be transmitted from a donor to a recipient during allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation. Exclusion of candidate donors with CH is controversial since its impact on recipient outcomes and graft alloimmune function is uncertain.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We performed targeted error-corrected sequencing on samples from 1,727 donors age 40 years or older and assessed the effect of donor CH on recipient clinical outcomes. We measured long-term engraftment of 102 donor clones and cytokine levels in 256 recipients at 3 and 12 months after transplant.

During the 2015 Korean MERS outbreak, we experienced atypical presentations of MERS-CoV infections in three immunocompromised hosts that warranted exceptional management. Case 1 showed delayed symptom development after a four-day asymptomatic period, Case 2 experienced a 20-day incubation period, and Case 3 exhibited persistent viral shedding without clinical deterioration. Recognizing these exceptions is extremely important in the management of MERS-CoV-exposed or -infected patients and for control of potential MERS outbreaks.

Corticosteroids remain essential for controlling active chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD). However, the optimum dose and administration schedule is unknown. Despite the importance of bone marrow stromal cells in hemopoiesis, the profile of surface molecule expression is relatively poorly understood.
