Efficacy of manual lymph drainage plus exercise on range of motion and flexibility in refractory chronic cutaneous graft-versus-host disease: A case report.

Graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) is a common complication of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) with high morbidity and mortality rates. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the efficacy of Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) and a home-based exercise programme on range of motion (ROM) and flexibility in a patient diagnosed with chronic cutaneous GvHD. A 29-year-old male who was diagnosed as acute lymphoblastic leukemia underwent allo-HSCT after induction chemotherapy. He developed extended chronic cutaneous skin GvHD. He received systemic immunosuppressive treatmen…

The effect of isokinetic dynamometer deceleration phase on maximum ankle joint range of motion and plantar flexor mechanical properties tested at different angular velocities.

During range of motion (max-ROM) tests performed on an isokinetic dynamometer, the mechanical delay between the button press (by the participant to signal their max-ROM) and the stopping of joint rotation resulting from system inertia induces errors in both max-ROM and maximum passive joint moment. The present study aimed to quantify these errors by comparing data when max-ROM was obtained from the joint position data, as usual (max-ROMPOS), to data where max-ROM was defined as the first point of dynamometer arm deceleration (max-ROMACC). Fifteen participants performed isokinetic ankle joint m…

Early return to baseline range of motion and strength after anterior shoulder instability surgery: a Multicenter Orthopaedic Outcomes Network (MOON) shoulder group cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Patients often return to higher-level activities and sports at 4 to 8 months after anterior shoulder stabilization procedures. It is unknown what percentage of patients have regained normal function at this time frame and what factors predict residual deficits, range of motion (ROM), and strength after anterior shoulder instability surgery. METHODS: Ten participating sites throughout the United States enrolled patients in a prospective cohort study including primary, revision, arthroscopic, and open anterior stabilization procedures. Baseline demographic data and patient outcomes …

Motion of the diaphragm in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease while spontaneously breathing versus during positive pressure breathing after anesthesia and neuromuscular blockade.

BACKGROUND: Diaphragmatic excursion during spontaneous ventilation (SV) in normal supine volunteers is greatest in the dependent regions (bottom). During positive pressure ventilation (PPV) after anesthesia and neuromuscular blockade and depending on tidal volume, the nondependent region (top) undergoes the greatest excursion, or the diaphragm moves uniformly. The purpose of this study was to compare diaphragmatic excursion (during SV and PPV) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with patients having normal pulmonary function. METHODS: Twelve COPD patients and 12 norm

Comparison of visual and electronic assessments of active cervical range of motion in university varsity level American football players: a three-point cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Neck pain is common in contact sports such as football, where rapid and accurate cervical range of motion (ROM) assessment is essential. Electronic goniometers provide reliable measurements but are impractical in field settings, leading clinicians to rely on visual estimation. The accuracy of this method and its improvement with repeated exposure remain unclear. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the agreement (trueness) between subjective visual assessments of active cervical range of motion and measurements obtained using an electronic goniometer, and to determine whether repeated assessmen…

Enzymatic and Biophysical Analysis of two Highly Related Cytochrome P450 Reductases from Artemisia annua Reveals Differences in Their Ligand Interactions and Domain Motions.

Artemisinin is an effective antimalarial drug sourced from Artemisia annua, but its low and variable yields require enhancement either semi- … viour between the two enzymes led to the hypothesis that AaCPR1 and AaCPR2 exhibit different domain motions that may lead to preferential catalysis for one redox partner over another. This was further supported by the prediction of a highly variable loop region between the two enzymes at the connecting domain just after the flexible hinge. If such loops …

Effect of dry needling therapy on hip range of motion as a component of functional performance in patients with chronic low back pain: a randomized clinical trial.

INTRODUCTION: The dry needling (DN) method is increasingly used in the treatment of low back pain (LBP). It involves inserting a thin needle into the tissue without anesthesia or injection. The therapeutic effect of DN is related to the change in the mechanical sensitivity of muscle tissue and reducing pain in patients with musculoskeletal dysfunctions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of DN according to the Five Regulatory Systems Concept (FRSc) on the range of motion of the hip joints as a component of functional performance in patients with chronic LBP. MATERIAL AND METHODS…
