The transient coxitis is the most common hip disease in the childhood. Etiology is unknown. Questioning the history you will often find an infection in the neck, nose, ear area. Clinical, radiological findings and serological testing are unspecific. In the arthrosonography normally you will find an effusion. A family affected with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome is reported with an emphasis on radiological findings. A patient showed extensive pigmentation around the lips, buccal mucosa, and nose. Another showed prolonged transient intussusception of a jejunal loop on barium meal examination, and massive rectal bleeding. In this patient, small bowel polyps could also be seen on ultrasonography (US) and computed tomography (CT). On CT several polyps, up to 3 cm in size, were detected along with a "carpeting" pattern of several loops presumably caused by multiple small polyps.

A case report of a Class III dental malocclusion superimposed on a straight skeletal pattern is presented. The patient was a 14-year-old girl with limited growth potential. This case included congenitally missing maxillary permanent lateral incisors, impacted maxillary permanent canines, and bilateral posterior open bites. The patient's soft-tissue profile was normally convex. In addition to her malocclusion, the patient had a history of difficulty breathing through the nose. The general treatment included palatal expansion, protraction headgear, and comprehensive edgewise orthodontic therapy.

A 22-year-old woman presented to an ear, nose, and throat clinic with an upper respiratory infection and sudden stridorous respirations. Aerosolized isoethrane therapy was beneficial and fiber-optic nasolaryngoscopy revealed a normal supraglottis and purulent intratracheal secretions. A number of surgical modalities, including the CO2 laser, have been advocated for the treatment of rhinophyma. The CO2 laser has been extensively promoted for the management of many skin lesions, including warts, keloids, and various nail problems. In many instances it has been suggested that the CO2 laser holds a distinct advantage over other surgical modalities. Three patients with rhinophyma are presented. Results are compared after treating one half of the nose with biterminal electrocutting current and the other half with the beam of the CO2 laser.

Nasal vasomotor responses were recorded in conscious human subjects by means of water filled balloons. Hyperventilation caused an increase in intranasal balloon pressure associated with vasodilatation whereas breath holding caused a decrease associated with vasoconstriction. A curious monozygous pair of twins producing sudden and vehement nose blowing and/or sneezing during/after eating and drinking, when their stomach had achieved a certain stage of fullness, has been observed. The sneezing reflex could be registered in 4 male members of the family. Since there were neither neurological disorders nor significant alterations in their electroencephalographic activity, the phenomenon may be regarded as a special type of hereditary vegetative sensitivity. The trait seems to follow either an autosomal dominant or perhaps a Y-linked mode of inheritance.

The distribution of sweating on the face was studied in 31 patients with Horner's syndrome. In patients whose lesion was known to be distal to the bifurcation of the common carotid artery impairment of sweating was confined to the medial aspect of the forehead and side of the nose. In more proximal lesions loss of sweating involved the whole of one side of the face. A chemiluminescent material, Cyalume, was used to demonstrate the anatomy and patency of the human lacrimal drainage system. Repeated esophageal dilatation for chronic strictures secondary to corrosive burns or anastomotic scarring is commonly performed by the retrograde technic in children. This requires the presence of an indwelling string, tied in a circle, entering the nose, and exiting the gastrostomy site.
