Trends in Uterine Cervical Cancer Screening at Physical Health Checkups for Company Employees in Japan.

The consultation rate for uterine cervical cancer screening in Japan is markedly low in comparison with other developed countries. The purpose of this study is to investigate the trends in uterine cervical cancer screening during regular company checkups and to identify potential problems. Questionnaires were sent to occupational health physicians through Sansuiken (Alumni Association of the University of Occupational and Environmental Health, Japan). Overall, 127 valid responses showed that Papanicolaou (Pap) tests are conducted in 100 companies (79%). The detailed information from 50 of the

Evaluation of individual and facility factors that promote hand washing in aged-care facilities in Japan.

Internationally, it has been found that regular and timely hand washing is part of hand-hygiene practices that can reduce rates of infection in health-care facilities, but research has shown that there is a low level of compliance with hand washing in hospitals worldwide, including Japan. The number of aged-care facilities is growing throughout the world as our populations age, but hand-washing compliance appears even lower in such settings where there are vulnerable and frail elderly persons. This study used a correlational, cross-sectional design to clarify, for the first time, individual an

Current status and future trends in Cryptosporidium and Giardia epidemiology in Malaysia.

Cryptosporidium and Giardia are major causes of diarrhoeal diseases of humans worldwide, and are included in the World Health Organisation's 'Neglected Diseases Initiative'. Cryptosporidium and Giardia occur commonly in Malaysian human and non-human populations, but their impact on disease, morbidity and cost of illness is not known. The commonness of contributions from human (STW effluents, indiscriminate defaecation) and non-human (calving, lambing, muck spreading, slurry spraying, pasturing/grazing of domestic animals, infected wild animals) hosts indicate that many Malaysian environments,

The Genetic Diagnostics of Hemochromatosis: Disparities in Low- Versus High-Income Countries.

This study provides a comprehensive overview of hereditary hemochromatosis (HH), a genetic condition characterized by iron overload due to excessive iron absorption. It elucidates diverse inheritance patterns and clinical manifestations by exploring mutations in critical genes such as HFE (hemochromatosis), HJV (hemojuvelin), HAMP (hepcidin antimicrobial peptide), TfR2 (transferrin receptor 2), and FP (ferroportin). The significance of early screening, diagnosis, and personalized management strategies based on genetic classification is emphasized, particularly in terms of high-income vs. low-i

Approaches to implementing and financing primary health care in Kenya: a case of seven counties.

BACKGROUND: Kenya has prioritized Primary Health Care as an indispensable foundation to realize UHC by 2022. Integral to this approach's operationalization is the adoption of the primary health care networks (PCNs) model to strengthen service delivery efficiency and coordination. The PCNs are coordinated by a Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). The MDT is dynamic and should comprise a care and support team that matches patient health needs and the catchment population. This scholarly article delineates the outcomes of an investigative assessment reviewing the current state and trajectory of PHC impl

Merging citizen science with epidemiology: design of a prospective feasibility study of health events and air pollution in Cologne, Germany.

BACKGROUND: Citizen science as an approach to merge society and science is not a new paradigm. Yet it is not common in public health, epidemiology, or medical sciences. SMARAGD (Sensors for Measuring Aerosols and ReActive Gases to Deduce health effects) assesses air pollution at participants' homes or workplaces in Cologne, Germany, as feasibility study with a citizen science approach. Personal exposure to air pollutants is difficult to study, because the distribution of pollutants is heterogeneous, especially in urban areas. Targeted data collection allows to establish connections between air

Medical homelessness and candidacy: women transiting between prison and community health care.

BACKGROUND: Women in contact with the prison system have high health needs. Short periods in prison and serial incarcerations are common. Examination of their experiences of health care both in prison and in the community may assist in better supporting their wellbeing and, ultimately, decrease their risk of returning to prison. METHODS: We interviewed women in prisons in Sydney, Australia, using pre-release and post-release interviews. We undertook thematic analysis of the combined interviews, considering them as continuing narratives of their healthcare experiences. We further reviewed the

Biological control of the most common wheat fungal diseases: modes-of-action of microbial antagonists, challenges and future perspectives.

Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) production is severely threatened by a range of fungal pathogens that greatly constrain the plant health, grain quality and overall yield. Current strategies for managing wheat fungal diseases primarily rely on host resistance breeding, chemical fungicides and cultural practices. The effectiveness of these conventional approaches is increasingly hampered by the slow pace of genetic improvement, the rapid emergence of fungicide-resistant pathogen populations, and the continuous evolution of pathogen virulence. These constraints demand integrating environmentally sus
