A service evaluation of PTSD Resolution therapy for military veterans.

BACKGROUND: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) Resolution is a UK-based charity that provides treatment for military veterans, reservists and their families. However, there is little contemporary evaluation of their clinical outcomes to inform commissioners or potential service users. AIMS: To establish whether treatment by PTSD Resolution therapists resulted in positive outcomes at the end of therapy and follow-up; to establish risk and resilience factors associated with positive treatment outcomes; and to the extent possible, compare PTSD Resolution with National Health Service (NHS)-Imp

The "gift of love" as a candidate mechanism of psychopathology and change in interpersonal reconstructive therapy for patients with high-acuity clinical needs.

A key mechanism of psychopathology and change proposed by the theory of interpersonal reconstructive therapy (IRT; Benjamin, 2003, 2018) is termed the "gift of love" (GOL). The GOL hypothesis is that wishes to receive love and acceptance from specific internalized attachment figures shape and maintain problem patterns and their associated symptoms for many patients across a wide range of psychopathology. According to IRT theory, optimal intervention is defined by therapist alignment, or "adherence," to a core algorithm of principles that are tailored individually and bring awareness to (a) att

[GROUP COGNITIVE PROCESSING THERAPY - CPT - A CASE STUDY].

INTRODUCTION: Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is one of only a few evidence based therapies that was developed and proven effective for the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Therapy can be administered in an individual or group format. Group CPT was offered in our clinic prior to the onset of the Iron Swords war. Among the participants was G., who was diagnosed with PTSD following an injury that occurred during his military service. AIMS: The aim of this report is to present group CPT through the experience of one participant who was diagnosed with PTSD due to a military

Schema modes as mechanisms of change in treating borderline personality disorder: A model replication study.

OBJECTIVE: Schema modes have been theorized and tested as mechanisms of change in the treatment of personality disorders. We investigated whether schema modes also function as mechanisms of change in borderline personality disorder (BPD) treatment. METHOD: Data from 494 patients (N = 68 male, N = 426 female) with borderline PD who participated in an international randomized clinical trial on effectiveness of two group schema therapy formats vs treatment as usual were analyzed. Granger Causality was tested partially replicating the model predicting PD severity as derived in Yakın et al. (2020)

Effects of combined group reminiscence and exercise therapy on psychological wellbeing and functional fitness among older adults with dementia.

Reminiscence therapy and exercise therapy have both proven beneficial for individuals with dementia. However, there is limited information on the effects of combining these two approaches in older adults with dementia. Our study aimed to investigate the impact of combined group reminiscence therapy (GRT) and group exercise therapy (GET) on psychological well-being and functional fitness in this population. A total of 32 older adults with mild to moderate dementia living in care homes were randomly assigned into either intervention or usual care groups. The study was conducted from January to J

Meta-Analysis on the Effectiveness of mHealth Interventions for Mental Health: A 10-Year Update.

Mobile health (mHealth) interventions offer scalable ways to deliver mental health support via smartphone technology. This updated meta-analysis builds on Lindhiem et al., synthesizing findings from 79 randomized controlled trials identified through PsycINFO. Eligible studies included clinical samples, randomized designs, and at least one mHealth intervention group. Three comparisons were examined: mHealth + treatment versus control treatment, mHealth versus control treatment, and mHealth versus no treatment. Results showed small to moderate effects, with the strongest outcomes when mHealth in

To feel is to heal-introduction to Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy.

BACKGROUND: Persistent physical symptoms (PPS), including (primary) pain, can, according to Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy (EAET), be precipitated, perpetuated, and prolonged by emotional processes related to unresolved trauma and psychosocial conflicts. EAET is a novel, short-term, psychodynamic- and emotion-focused psychological treatment that targets these etiological factors, intending to substantially reduce or eliminate pain and/or somatic symptoms. OBJECTIVE: This article provides an overview of EAET's theoretical background, core treatment principles, and empirical evidenc

Unified Protocol Versus Self-Acceptance Group Therapy for Emotional Disorders in People With Severe Shame.

BACKGROUND: Severe shame is a distressing negative emotion, accompanied by intense feelings of worthlessness that contributes to a broad panoply of psychological disorders. This study aimed to compare the effects on shame dysregulation of two transdiagnostic treatments, the Unified Protocol (UP) and Self-Acceptance Group Therapy (SAGT). We additionally addressed the question of whether borderline personality disorder (BPD) can properly be regarded as an emotional disorder. The focus was on outcome measures, primarily shame that cut across individual diagnostic categories and capture emotional

Emotional processing as mechanism of change in brief good psychiatric management for borderline personality disorder: results of a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is one of the most frequent, severe, mental conditions and is associated with a serious burden of disease. Treatment for patients with BPD involves structured psychotherapy. In addition and in order to improve access to care, psychiatric treatments are available. So far, it remains unclear if brief psychiatric intervention according to Good Psychiatric Management (GPM) produces a reliable effect on a variety of clinical outcomes. The assessment of mechanisms of change contributes to focus the treatment on the essential ingredients of change. Th…

Testing an Imagery Rescripting Exercise Targeting Fear of Self.

A feared possible self refers to the unwanted characteristics that a person may possess or develop. We tested an experimental paradigm to target fear of possible self using imagery rescripting. A student sample (n = 91), with moderate obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms, engaged in written and audio-guided exercises to evoke episodic future mental imagery that represented their feared possible self. Participants were then randomized between imagery rescripting or neutral imagery control tasks. The results revealed no difference between conditions in fear of self or general obsessional belie

Parents' experiences of psychotherapeutic support on the neonatal unit: A mixed methods systematic review to inform intervention development for a multicultural population.

BACKGROUND: Parents of infants admitted to neonatal intensive care require support to minimize the impact on their mental health and to encourage engagement with their infants to support infant neurodevelopment. Many interventions aim to address this need, but there is a lack of research considering the accessibility of these for a multicultural population. AIM: To systematically identify sources of psychotherapeutic support available for parents with infants admitted to neonatal care (NNU, neonatal intensive care unit [NICU] and special care units), assess their accessibility and acceptabili

BLAME-LESS STUDY: a two-arm randomized controlled trial evaluating the effects of an online psychoeducation programme for adolescents who have experienced physical/sexual violence or sexual abuse. Rationale, study design, and methods.

Background: Victims of physical/sexual violence or sexual abuse commonly experience defense responses that result in feelings of guilt and shame. Although trauma-focused interventions are effective in treating post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms, the presence of trauma-related shame and guilt can potentially hinder the process of disclosure during treatment, thus diminishing their overall effectiveness. It is hypothesized that providing psychoeducation about common defense responses will reduce feelings of shame and guilt, thereby increasing receptivity to trauma-focused treatment.Objectiv

Abbreviated Dialectical Behavior Therapy Virtual Skills Group for Caregivers of Adolescents: An Exploratory Study of Service User and Clinical Outcomes.

Prior work emphasizes involving caregivers in youth mental health services. To support youth with emotion dysregulation, dialectical behavior therapy for adolescents (DBT-A) includes a multi-family skills group, wherein adolescents and caregivers learn skills together. However, limited work has examined the impact of caregiver involvement within DBT-A. The current study examines outcomes of two caregiver-only DBT-A skills groups adapted for abbreviated telehealth delivery. We report on caregivers' (N = 11, 100% mothers, 55% Hispanic) service user outcomes (e.g. self-efficacy at skill usage, gr
