BACKGROUND: Corrosive stricture of esophagus may be associated with variable involvement of stomach. We analyzed the outcome of gastric conduit used in the management of corrosive esophageal stricture with concomitant antro-pyloric stricture.

BACKGROUND: Gastric antral webs are mucosal structures, varying from fenestrated diaphragms to mucosal crescents, resulting in varying degrees of foregut obstruction. Patients commonly present with vomiting, failure to thrive, and abdominal pain. Prevalence is unknown, and diagnosis can be difficult.
METHODS: We performed an IRB-approved retrospective review of patients from 4/1/2015-4/1/2018 at a Level I Children's Surgery Center undergoing gastric antral web resection. Data obtained included demographics, preoperative workup, surgical repair, and outcomes.

AIM: The study aims to review the contemporary presentation, diagnosis and treatment of children with infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (IHPS) at an Australian paediatric tertiary centre.
METHODS: A retrospective case review of patients with IHPS presenting to our institution between January 2004 and December 2010 was performed. Results were compared with a previous study evaluating two earlier 6-year series of patients treated between January 1984 and November 1995.

A lipolytic activity was located in the sardine digestive glands (pyloric caeca), from which a sardine digestive lipase (SaDL) was purified. Pure SaDL has a molecular mass of 43 kDa as determined by sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis analysis. The enzyme was found to be more active on short-chain triacylglycerols than on long-chain ones. SaDL does not present the interfacial activation phenomenon. Control experiments were performed under the same experimental conditions, with dromedary and turkey pancreatic lipases and showed a positive interfacial activation phenomenon.

Pyloric stenosis is a common infantile disorder typically occurring between 2 weeks and 8 weeks of age. Presentation outside this range and in premature infants is uncommon and often atypical. We present three cases, a pair of premature twins and a 5.5-month-old infant with pyloric stenosis. We highlight that despite their difference in size and weight, ultrasound examination remains a reliable diagnostic tool. However, pyloric measurements should be interpreted in combination with the other dynamic features on ultrasound.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Esophagogastric anastomotic leaks complicate 5% to 20% of esophagectomies for esophageal cancer and are responsible for approximately one-third of perioperative deaths. Poor gastric emptying is a predisposing factor for anastomotic leakage. Between 1919 and 1941, 71 infants suffering from pyloric hypertrophy were operated on by Ramstedt performing an extramucosal pyloromyotomy. Of these patients, we could identify and investigate 41. Four out of 31 long-term surviving patients have been Billroth II-resected (BII). One of these needed re-resection because of an anastomotic ulcer. An experience with surgical treatment of 1027 patients with perforated gastroduodenal ulcers was analyzed. Radical operations were performed on 541 patients (52.7%), palliative operations on 486 patients (47.3%). Total lethality was 7.5%, among them 13.2% after the palliative procedures, 2.4% after radical ones (p < 0.01).
