Association Between GABRG2 and Self-Rating of the Effects of Alcohol in a French Young Adult Sample.

PURPOSE: Alcohol use is a leading risk factor for preventable death, injury, and disease globally. Low sensitivity to the effects of alcohol is influenced by genes and predicts risk for harmful alcohol use and alcohol use disorder (AUD). Alcohol induces effects partly by modulation of gamma-aminobutyric acid receptors type A (GABAARs). This study investigates the relationship between genetic variation in GABAAR subunit genes and individual alcohol sensitivity among French university students. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study involved 1,409 French university students (34.5% women; mean age 20.3

Comparative Evaluation of 11 Prognostic Scores for Atrial Fibrillation Recurrence After Pulmonary Vein Isolation in Non-Paroxysmal AF: A Retrospective Comparative Analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) remains the cornerstone of catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF); however, a substantial proportion of patients with non-paroxysmal AF (non-PAF) experience recurrence following ablation. With numerous prognostic models available to predict recurrence, the aim of this study is to compare the predictive performance of multiple scoring systems in patients with non-PAF undergoing PVI as a standalone procedure. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted involving 166 patients with non-PAF (22.3% female; mean age 60 ± 9 years) who underwent in

Impact of Serum Magnesium Levels on Mineral-Bone Metabolism in Non-Dialysis-Dependent Chronic Kidney Disease.

BACKGROUND: Magnesium is one of the important minerals in the human body. The metabolic imbalance of magnesium has been found in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), but the research on the serum magnesium level of patients with non-dialysis-dependent CKD (NDD-CKD) and its relationship with mineral-skeletal metabolic disorder (CKD-MBD) is still relatively limited. This study aims to explore the changes in serum magnesium levels in patients with non-dialysis-dependent CKD at different stages and evaluate its relationship with mineral metabolism markers (calcium, phosphorus, iPTH and alka
