OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinical, neuroimaging 51 with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and evolutive findings in 12 patients with incont … severe in patients with neonatal severe cutaneous lesions, especially if these were located in the scalp. Cerebral lesions were present from birth or the first months of life and changed little thereafter. The acute appearance and distribution of cerebral lesions always during the neonatal period, associated with scalp lesions in stage 1, suggest an ac …

A dermoid cyst, also called a benign cystic teratoma, often presents as a midline mass in the trunk or sacrococcygeal region, and more commonly in the skin of the face, forehead, and scalp. Although the ischiorectal fossa contains very few structures, a wide variety of pathological entities, such as developmental cysts, epidermoid cysts, lipomas, neurofibromas, and tailgut cysts, have been reported. Dermoid cysts in the ischiorectal fossa are rare, and very few cases have been reported in the scientific literature. This case report presents an uncommon presentation of a dermoid cyst in the isc…

Epithelioid hemangioma (EH) represents a rare, benign neoplastic vascular proliferation that predominantly manifests within the cutaneous and subcutaneous tissues of the head and neck region. While well-documented in areas such as the scalp and forehead, its primary occurrence within the otolaryngologic tract, specifically involving the auricle and the cartilaginous portion of the external auditory canal, remains exceedingly uncommon. Due to its overlapping clinical and radiological features with other vascular and lymphoid pathologies, EH poses a significant diagnostic challenge for clinician…

Sarcoidosis is a systemic inflammatory disease affecting multiple organs including the skin, lungs, and kidneys. This case report describes a man in his late 20s presenting with recurrent kidney stones and a one-year history of progressive, asymptomatic lesions on his scalp, forehead, trunk, and feet, with dyspnea on exertion. Biopsy confirmed cutaneous sarcoidosis, and further evaluation revealed pulmonary and renal involvement. He was treated with hydroxychloroquine and prednisone, leading to improvement in skin lesions. This case highlights the importance of recognizing cutaneous manifestat…

Nevus sebaceous has been described since 1895 by Jadassohn. It has been described as unctuous yellow nodules with granular-pitted surfaces as a hypertrophic sebaceous gland. It usually appears on the face, scalp, and neck. It has been stated to involve three stages. (1) Being small and yellow in nature and hairless. (2) Enlargement of the glandular part. (3) Malignant transformation. There are a few cases of nevus sebaceous involving the eyelid margin that have been reported in the English literature. We here report a case report of a nevus sebaceous in a child involving the upper and lower li…

A neonate presented to a tertiary clinic with blisters and erosions over his trunk and extremities. The mother had multiple erosions with crusts affecting the scalp, oral cavity and trunk present since the first trimester and worse since delivery. Skin biopsy for histopathology and direct immunofluorescence confirmed pemphigus vulgaris (PV) in the mother. Indirect immunofluorescence assays for serum antibodies against desmogleins 1 and 3 were positive in both mother and baby confirming a diagnosis of neonatal PV. The baby's lesions healed spontaneously within 2 weeks, and the mother was clear …

A 44-year-old male presented with a 2-month history of erythematous ulcerative papules and plaques on the scalp, face, and bilateral lower legs. He had a 5-year history of well-controlled HIV on antiretroviral therapy and recurrent syphilis infections. His face had violaceous plaques, while bilateral ankles and calves had ulcerative lesions with necrotic centers and purple borders. The morphologies clinically mimicked pyoderma gangrenosum on the lower extremities and cutaneous lymphoma on the face. Biopsy and reactive rapid plasma reagin confirmed a diagnosis of lues maligna, and the patient w…

Female patterned hair loss (FPHL) is a common form of androgenetic alopecia in women and is characterized by a hormonally directed diffuse hair loss on the scalp. Management of FPHL is well described in the literature; however, treatment of FPHL in patients with co-morbid polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), an endocrinologic condition found in reproductive-aged women, has not yet been reviewed. Due to the different pathomechanism of the diseases and complexity of FPHL in PCOS patients, this study aimed to review current diagnosis and management approaches for hair loss in PCOS patients specifi…

Anesthesia for awake neurosurgery requires meticulous planning. We report the case of a 44-year-old female with glioblastoma undergoing an awake craniotomy. Due to her asthma and von Willebrand disease, an opioid-free approach was chosen. Conscious sedation was attained using propofol and dexmedetomidine. The operation was successful after nine hours with patient comfort maintained. The patient was discharged from the intensive care unit in two days without sequelae. However, the use of desmopressin caused hyponatremia and cerebral edema. The scalp block was effective for pain management. This…
