Carboxyl group-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles were used to develop an RNase-free method for plasmid DNA (pDNA) purification directly from RNA-containing crude Escherichia coli lysates. This method takes advantage of differing adsorption behaviors of pDNA and RNA onto magnetic nanoparticle surfaces at different temperatures. The NMR and fluorescence quenching of benzene, chlorobenzene and methoxybenzene in acetonitril and 2-propanol solvents have been carried out with a view to understand the quenching mechanisms. INTRODUCTION: Avermectin has been used in the control of parasites and insects. Severe poisoning symptoms in humans include altered mental status, hypotension, and respiratory failure.
CASE REPORT: We describe a case of acute avermectin intoxication at a very high dose (414.2 mg/kg) who presented with coma, myoclonus, and polyneuropathy after oral ingestion.
DISCUSSION: The symptoms are supposed to be associated directly with the avermectin poisoning and possibly with the toxicity of solvents or other additives.

Recent studies have led us to suppose that synergistic action of multiple solute cofactors could play substantial roles in amyloid-type fibrillogenesis of pathogenic polypeptides. 7-[(2,2-Dimethyl)propyl]-1-methyl xanthine (CAS 155006-67-0, MX2/120) is a new potent antibronchospastic agent with negligible side effects. The synthesis involves the alkylation of 3-benzyl-1-methyl xanthine with neopentyl bromide followed by removal of the benzyl protecting group. Main physico-chemical properties were determined using NMR, MS, IR, UV spectra and X-ray crystal structure. A quantitative determination of substances related to MX2/120 and of residual solvents by means of HPLC and GC, respectively, is described. MX2/120 is safely stored at room temperature for a long time.
