Thickness and Curvature Changes of Human Corneal Grafts in Dextran-Containing Organ Culture Medium Before Keratoplasty.

PURPOSE: To determine the changes of corneal thickness and curvature of human corneal grafts in organ culture medium II, containing dextran T500 6%, before keratoplasty. METHODS: We examined the tomography of 24 corneas from our eye bank transferred from medium I into medium II. Images were repeated hourly during 24 hours using an anterior segment optical coherence tomography. The central corneal thickness (CCT) was measured with the manual measurement tool of the anterior segment optical coherence tomography. The radii of curvature (anterior flat and steep and posterior flat and steep) were

Unilateral cryptophthalmia.

Two patients had the variable clinical features of unilateral cryptophthalmia. A 5-month-old boy had isolated unilateral cryptophthalmia: a small boney orbit, deformed optic canal, and a small amorphous mass with no normal intraocular tissue representing the globe. No extraocular muscles or optic nerve were identified by B-scan ultrasound or by computed axial tomography x-ray techniques. The second patient, a 13-year-old girl, had unilateral cryptophthalmia, and numerous systemic abnormalities including a head circumference less than the third percentile, severe mental retardation, hypoplasia

Choroidal rupture and optic nerve injury with equipment designated as 'child-safe'.

Blunt ocular trauma from a child's plastic foam-covered toy baseball bat caused traumatic optic neuropathy and choroidal rupture in a 9-year-old child. The examination revealed a visual acuity of 6/60, a relative afferent pupillary defect, optic nerve swelling, commotio retinae and retinal haemorrhages. There was no orbital fracture or intraorbital haematoma on CT scanning. Optical coherence tomography showed macular oedema and disruption of the retinal pigment epithelium and Bruch's membrane. The child was admitted for intravenous methylprednisolone and discharged on topical steroid treatment

Ophthalmic complications of dental anesthesia: three new cases.

Two patients had ipsilateral optic neuropathy and one patient had an ipsilateral abduction deficit and a dilated, poorly reactive pupil immediately after anesthesia of upper alveolar teeth. In one patient with optic neuropathy, the optic disc was not swollen, brain and orbit computed tomography (CT) was negative, and vision recovered completely within 2 weeks. In the other patient with optic neuropathy, the optic disc was swollen, brain and orbit CT were negative, and vision did not recover. In the patient with ductional and pupil deficits, recovery was complete within 24 hours. Since 1960, 39

Anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy in a patient with optic disc drusen.

BACKGROUND: Although visual field defects are well-known complications of optic disc drusen, reduction in visual acuity with this condition is rare. METHOD/RESULTS: We report on a 68-year-old male with bilateral optic disc drusen who presented with monocular loss of vision in the right eye associated with an inferior altitudinal visual field defect and signs consistent with acute anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy, confirmed on fluorescein angiography. He also had a left inferior nasal step, but no evidence of glaucomatous cupping. The disc drusen were documented clinically and on B scan ult

Multimodal Non-Invasive Skin Imaging in Dermatology: Current Modalities, Clinical Applications, and Future Integration.

Multimodal non-invasive skin imaging combines complementary technologies, including dermoscopy, reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM), optical coherence tomography (OCT), line-field confocal optical coherence tomography (LC-OCT), and high-frequency ultrasound (HFUS), to enable comprehensive evaluation of skin lesions across multiple spatial scales. While dermoscopy facilitates assessment of superficial morphologic features, RCM provides near-cellular resolution imaging, C-OCT and LC-OCT offer high-resolution structural visualization at greater depths, and HFUS enables evaluation of deeper tiss

Macular telangiectasia masqueraders.

Macular telangiectasia Type 2 (MacTel 2) is a bilateral retinal disease characterized by progressive neurodegenerative and telangiectatic changes in the macula. Its subtle early presentation and overlap with a variety of retinal conditions often lead to diagnostic uncertainty and delayed intervention. As clinical understanding of MacTel 2 has evolved, advanced imaging modalities such as optical coherence tomography, fundus autofluorescence, fundus fluorescein angiography, and optical coherence tomography angiography have become essential tools for accurate diagnosis and differentiation from mi

Faricimab for choroidal neovascular membrane secondary to choroidal osteoma: A case report.

Choroidal osteoma is a rare, benign ossifying tumor of the choroid. As the disease progresses, significant visual loss may occur. Approximately one-third of patients with choroidal osteoma develop a choroidal neovascular membrane. Choroidal neovascular membrane-associated exudation and photoreceptor disruption can lead to progressive visual decline. However, no established standard treatment exists, particularly for choroidal neovascular membrane secondary to choroidal osteoma. A healthy male in his 30s with known bilateral choroidal osteomas presented with metamorphopsia and decreased vision
