Twenty-two patients received specific active immunotherapy (TAA vaccine once per month for 3 months), with the duration of follow-up, as of July 1984, ranging from 3 months to 36 months (median, 21 months). Arsonoliposomes (ARSL) are liposomes that incorporate arsonolipids (ARS) in their membranes. A toxic-allergic skin reaction of the face, neck and arms due to accidental contact with methylenedianiline (syn: 4-4'-diaminodiphenylmethane) is reported in a cleaner at a chemical plant. Patch tests revealed sensitization to chemicals of the para-group. Earlier exposure to it was unlikely. Previous sensitization to related chemicals and possible cross-sensitization was considered to be the primary cause of the allergy and the clinical manifestations.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate a novel macromolecular test method for the identification of dermal corrosives. The simple in chemico test procedure involves allowing the material to be tested to interact with a skin biomarker for corrosivity and then adding a detection reagent. The corrosivity of the test substance is predicted based on the measured macromolecular damage, which results in reduced optical density of the detection reagent as compared with controls. This study aims to determine if such an extremely simple, cell-free test method can accurately identify dermal corrosives.

A free-living black bear (Ursus americanus) with cerebellar ataxia and occasional unilateral epistaxis was given supportive care. Neurologic signs resolved within 7 d; however, the epistaxis progressed and the bear developed pancytopenia and died. The granulated dry extract from Gentianopsis barbata (Froel) Ma in a dose of 0.1 g/kg produced a pronounced therapeutic effect in rats with experimental toxic (tetrachloromethane) and drug-induced (tetracycline) hepatitis. Carbamazepine is widely used in the treatment of epilepsy and various neuralgias. Its most common side-effects are leukopenia and skin rash. Hepatic side-effects are rare, but serious and occasionally even fatal. A 72-year-old woman with toxic hepatitis due to carbamazepine is presented. We recommend monitoring liver function tests in every patient receiving this drug.

Cerebral edema may be vasogenic or cytoxic, and its main significance is raised intracranial pressure. Vasogenic edema results from damage to the blood vessel wall. The hallmark of cytotoxic edema is intracellular accumulation of fluid which occurs because of the exposure of the cells of the brain to toxic substances. Few diagnostic tests will document edema; the best is presently the CAT scan.

PURPOSE: Emerging data indicate comparable disease control and toxicity of normal postoperative fractionation and moderate hypofractionation radiation therapy (RT) in prostate cancer. In RADICALS-RT, patients were planned for treatment with either 66 Gy in 33 fractions (f) over 6.5 weeks or 52.5 Gy in 20f over 4 weeks. Forty-two patients with non-toxic goitre and with a high 10-minute uptake of I(131) were treated with 100 mug. of l-triiodothyronine per day for periods up to 36 months. All of the goitres were reduced in size and 10 showed marked regression within one week.
