BACKGROUND: Intraperitoneal (IP) radioactive chromic phosphate (P32) remains investigational in the treatment of patients with ovarian and/or endometrial cancer. Single-use percutaneously placed catheters offer the advantage of therapy without additional surgery.
METHODS: Between August, 1986 and October, 1992, 25 patients underwent bedside percutaneous catheter placement under local anesthesia without ultrasonographic or radiologic guidance, using a specialized central venous catheter.

Carboplatin is an effective chemotherapeutic agent against many solid tumours. Although it is thought to be less nephrotoxic than its precursor cisplatin, current paediatric treatment protocols require regular monitoring of renal glomerular function during and after carboplatin use. Because accurate assessment of renal function in children requires measurement of isotope-clearance glomerular filtration rates (GFRs), routine monitoring is costly and time consuming. We have compared different measurements of small intestinal permeability in 28 patients with Crohn's disease affecting the small intestine, 14 with ulcerative colitis and 17 controls. The bimolecular reduction of the Cu(II)-based enzyme lysyl oxidase with two inorganic reductants, tris bipyridylchromium(II) and (1,3,6,8,10,13,16,19)-octaazabicyclo (6,6,6)eicosanecobalt(II) has been examined at various ionic strength and [H+] conditions. The results of prosthetic resurfacing of the patella in 15 knees of 14 patients who ranged in age from 18 to 38 years at the time of surgery have been presented. The results were excellent in two knees, good in one knee, fair in eight knees, and poor in four knees. No mechanical failures occurred. The follow-up period ranged from 6 weeks to 8 years.
