Federated Quantum Machine Learning over Satellite Networks: Toward Scalable Distributed Quantum Classification.

Federated learning enables multiple organizations to collaboratively analyze data while retaining local control over their datasets, making it attractive for applications such as healthcare. Distributed quantum computing provides a natural framework for such workflows, allowing geographically separated quantum processors to execute joint computations using shared entanglement while preserving data privacy. In this work, we investigate the feasibility of satellite-enabled distributed quantum computing for federated quantum learning. As a representative application, we consider a distributed dis

ACTIVE involvement in alcohol care: a community case study in coproduction.

This is a descriptive case study of a public engagement group of people who have used alcohol care services. Involvement of people with lived and living experience is increasingly recognized as essential in health and social care policy. However, in alcohol care services, such involvement remains underdeveloped and sometimes tokenistic. This community case study outlines the establishment, development, and impact of the ACTIVE (Alcohol Care Team InVolvement and Engagement) group-a pioneering public and patient involvement and engagement (PPIE) initiative in alcohol care services across Merseys

Using the COM-B model to identify barriers and facilitators of long-term participation in a dance programme to increase physical activity in older adults.

'Dance On' is a community-based dance programme designed to engage older adults, especially females, and those of a low socioeconomic status, in regular physical activity. Data showed those that those who engage with 'Dance On' report a sustained increased in physical activity and wellbeing over 12 months. In this study we aim to explore older adults' perspectives on factors that help or hinder continued engagement with 'Dance On' in relation to both the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation and Behaviour (COM-B) model and the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF). Semi-structured interviews with

PREGO Protocol: Point-of-Care Ultrasound for Evaluating Third-Trimester Pregnancy in the Emergency Department.

BACKGROUND: Knowledge about a third-trimester pregnancy is essential for guiding management of a pregnant patient presenting to the emergency department (ED) in labor or with an acute obstetrical complaint. Unfortunately, patients in their third trimester may present without prenatal obstetric care or with a condition (e.g., ill, altered, or trauma) in which information about the pregnancy is not immediately available. Moreover, many rural and community hospitals do not have an obstetrician available during all hours of the day. Our proposed point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) PREGO protocol prov

Facilitating Personal Recovery in the Community: a Qualitative Evaluation of a Peer Support Group for Adults with Severe Mental Health Challenges in Rural Australia.

Individuals with severe mental health challenges [SMHCs] often have unmet needs that are beyond the scope of traditional mental health services. These needs are typically met by community agencies, charities and peer support groups. Happy Chat [HC] is one such peer-support group whose goal is to address social isolation, and loneliness by creating a safe space to facilitate the development of informal friendships among individuals with SMHCs in the community. Nineteen participants were interviewed as part of a qualitative evaluation of HC. Data were subjected to thematic analysis. Four categor

Uncovering How Social Cognitive Representations of Bilingualism in the United States Can Result in Psychological Shame and Linguistic Homelessness for Transnational Youth: Reorienting Bilingualism-as-Problem to a Resource and a Right.

Language is social, as it is used by individuals to communicate and exchange ideas in society. Language is also cognitive, as the primary function of language, even before communicating and exchanging ideas, is to think. This article connects the social representations of what bilingualism is in the United States and how transnational youth are talked about in U.S. society with how both of these social representations create cognitive representations (e.g., thoughts, ideas, and beliefs) about transnational youth that result in negative educational policies and practices and shameful psychologi

From cradle to cortex: An exposome- and equity-centered perspective of neurocognitive aging and dementia risk in the era of climate change.

The convergence of climate change, adverse environmental exposures, and rapid population aging necessitates an equity-based paradigm shift in safeguarding brain health across the life course. Older adults, especially those in marginalized and low-resource settings, face disproportionate exposure to air pollution, toxicants, and climate-related hazards. Emerging evidence links these biophysical, social, and cultural vulnerabilities to cognitive decline and a heightened risk of developing Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRDs), underscoring the need to examine cumulative exposures acr

Strengthening the quality and safety of community mental health care for children and young people: a critical review of innovations from low- and middle-income countries.

Improving the quality and safety of community mental health care for children and young people (CYP) is a global public health priority. Mental health problems affect 10%-20% of CYP globally. While many high and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) face significant structural barriers to accessing safe, person-centred mental health services, there have been innovative developments in service delivery emerging from low resource settings that are pertinent to address quality and safety of CYP mental health services globally. In this paper, we critically review emerging evidence from these co

QoS-Driven Resource Allocation and Performance Optimization for Aggregated VLC-RF Vehicular Networks.

Visible light communication (VLC) is widely regarded as a key enabler for future vehicular networks, thanks to its extremely large unlicensed bandwidth and non-interference with existing radio frequency (RF) communication networks. With the goal of maximizing the benefits of both RF and VLC technologies, aggregated VLC-RF vehicular networks, in which any vehicle can be served by both RF and VLC access points (APs) concurrently, have recently become a more robust and promising approach for enhancing vehicle-to-everything (V2X) applications and improving the quality-of-service (QoS) of vehicular

A hybrid XGBoost-SVM ensemble framework for robust cyber-attack detection in the internet of medical things (IoMT).

Today, the rise of the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) has evolved into a highly valued global market worth billions of dollars. However, this growth has also created many opportunities for massive and advanced attack scenarios due to the vast number of devices and their interconnected communication networks. Based on recent reports, it is observed that during the Covid-19 pandemic, the necessity of the IoMT ecosystem has increased significantly. On the other hand, attackers and intruders aim to impair data integrity and patient safety with the prevalence of sophisticated cyber attacks inclu

Remaining Human in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Spiritual and Psychiatric Reflections on Magnifica Humanitas.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly shaping the ways in which psychiatry understands, predicts, communicates, and responds to mental suffering. Although ethical discussions have rightly emphasised safety, transparency, privacy, accountability, and bias, the psychiatric implications of AI also require deeper anthropological and spiritual reflection. Developed from Paraguay and situated within international psychiatric and spiritual-health scholarship, this conceptual paper examines AI in psychiatry through the lens of Magnifica Humanitas, the first encyclical of Pope Leo XIV, which add

Zero-Valent Iron as a Sustainable Regulator for Anaerobic Digestion of MPs-Contaminated Organic Substrates: Performance Enhancement and Environmental Significance.

Under the "double carbon" goal, anaerobic digestion (AD) is irreplaceable for organic solid waste resource utilization, but ubiquitous microplastics (MPs) in substrates severely impair AD performance. Studies on regulating PE-MP-containing AD systems via zero valent iron (ZVI) remain scarce, so this study incorporated ZVI into such systems to elucidate its regulatory mechanisms through batch experiments. PE-MPs reduced substrate-microbe contact, inhibited key acid-methane enzymes, and disrupted microbial networks, lowering the acetate/propionate ratio to 0.269 (stable threshold: 1.50), decreas
