Long-term dosage effects of psychodynamic and schema therapy in depressed patients with personality disorders: 18 and 24 months follow-up of a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Providing psychotherapy at 50 sessions in a year (starting twice weekly) led to faster and greater improvements in depression and personality functioning compared to 25 sessions, starting weekly for patients with depression and personality disorder (PD). This study reports long-term dosage effects at 18 and 24 months. METHODS: In a pragmatic, double-randomized clinical trial, 246 outpatients with depression and PD were assigned to (1) 25 or 50 sessions and (2) Short-term Psychodynamic Supportive Psychotherapy (SPSP) or Schema Therapy (ST). Depression severity was assessed with the

A multi-ancestry meta genome-wide association study of migraine among veterans: associations with traumatic brain injury, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Migraine is a neurovascular disorder that poses a high burden to Veterans, who face a greater risk than sex-matched individuals in the general population. Genetic research on migraine in Veterans and its link to psychiatric comorbidities is limited. We present a meta-analysis of a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of migraine in a predominantly male sample of over 433,000 Veterans, including 87,859 cases, from the Million Veteran Program (MVP), identifying 49 genome-wide significant loci, with 36 novel to this study, of which 7 replicated in an independent prior GWAS (after Bonferroni corre

Small intestine bacterial overgrowth breath test does not predict symptom severity in gut-brain interaction disorders: role of anxiety, depression and inflammatory biomarkers.

BACKGROUND: the high prevalence of disorders of the gut-brain interaction (DGBI), the availability of breath tests for the diagnosis of small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) together with some confusion about the concept of SIBO have led to an increase in the number of SIBO diagnoses. OBJECTIVE: this study aimed to analyze factors associated with the severity of gastrointestinal symptoms in patients undergoing a SIBO breath test. METHODS: a cross-sectional observational study including 70 patients who underwent a SIBO test with lactitol and completed questionnaires including the ROME I

Factors associated with generalised anxiety disorder and depression among adults living with diabetes and hypertension comorbidity in rural Bangladesh: findings from a cross-sectional study.

OBJECTIVE: The rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including mental health disorders (MHDs) such as anxiety and depression, poses a significant public health challenge globally. Evidence suggests that both diabetes and hypertension, the two most prevalent NCDs, are linked to a higher prevalence of MHDs. However, there is a lack of evidence on prevalence of generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) and depression among adults living with both diabetes and hypertension in Bangladesh. We aimed to assess the prevalence of GAD and depression and explore the associated factors among adults l

Association between Symptoms of Depression and Generalised Anxiety Disorder Evaluated through PHQ-9 and GAD-7 and Anti-Obesity Treatment in Polish Adult Women.

Obesity impacts mental health greatly. Psychological factors may influence the effectiveness of its treatment. This study aimed to compare symptoms of generalised anxiety disorder and depression among adult women across different weight categories. The study sample comprised 1105 adult women. The computer-assisted web interview (CAWI) utilising the seven-item Generalised Anxiety Disorders Scale (GAD-7) and the nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) was used. Both GAD-7 and PHQ-9 scores correlated positively with BMI (r = 0.121, p < 0.001 and r = 0.173, p < 0.001, respectively) and nega

Experience of Intimate Partner Violence-Related Head Trauma and Its Association With Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Depression Symptoms Among Community Dwelling Women and Men.

Individuals who experience intimate partner violence (IPV) often report posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depressive symptoms and IPV-related head trauma (IPV-HT), which can also affect mental health. We aimed to estimate rates of IPV-HT and examine the unique associations of IPV, HT, and IPV-HT with PTSD and depression symptom severity in a community-based sample of cohabitating couples. A total of 413 participants (216 women, 1 non-binary) self-reported lifetime history of HT and physical IPV. Chi-square analyses and Fisher's exact tests were used to compare the proportion of women an

Discrepancy between Clinician-rated and Self-reported Depression Severity is Associated with Adverse Childhood Experience, Autistic-like Traits, and Coping Styles in Mood Disorders.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine if the discrepancy between depression severity rated by clinicians and that reported by patients depends on key behavioral/psychological features in patients with mood disorders. METHODS: Participants included 100 patients with mood disorders. First, we examined correlations and regressions between scores on the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). Second, we divided the participants into those who provided 1) greater ratings for the BDI compared with the HAMD (BDI relative- overrating, BO) group, 2) comparable r

Identifying causal associations between early sexual intercourse or number of sexual partners and major depressive disorders: A bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis.

BACKGROUND: Early sexual intercourse and a greater number of sexual partners have been proved associated with depression. However, the causality of these associations is not clear. METHODS: To unveil the causal associations between sexual factors and major depression disorder (MDD). The bidirectional, two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study was conducted, which used genetic variants associated with two sexual factors (age first had sexual intercourse, n = 406,457; lifetime number of sexual partners, n = 378,882) and MDD (n = 500,199) from the largest genome-wide association studies (GWA

Association of spontaneous abortion with bipolar disorder and major depression based on inverse probability treatment weighting of multigroup propensity scores: Evidence from the UK Biobank.

BACKGROUND: Few studies have explored the association between the number of SAs and bipolar disorder and major depression (BDMD). This study aims to investigate the association between SA and BDMD, and the possible dose-response relationship between them. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study of 13,200 female UK Biobank participants. Participants were classified into BDMD and no-BDMD groups based on their BDMD status. The number of SAs was grouped into non-SA, occasional SA (OSA), and recurrent SA (RSA). Baseline characteristics of the three groups were balanced using inverse probabil

Psychological interventions to improve pain, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and quality of life in children and adults with hypermobility spectrum disorders and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome: a systematic review.

Hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD) affect individuals across physical, psychological and social domains, making assessment and management difficult. Management for this condition primarily focuses on addressing the musculoskeletal complaints using physiotherapy rather than the additional manifestations such as fatigue, anxiety and depression. This systematic review aims to identify psychological interventions and assess whether they improve the lived experiences of individuals with HSD. It also aims to assess which psychological interventions were most effective, which symptoms were most e

Non-Psychiatrist Healthcare Professionals? Attitudes Toward Patients with Mental Disorders: Lower Scores in Social Distance as a Fragile Facet of Public Stigma Against Depression.

BACKGROUND: The stigmatization by healthcare professionals (HP) of patients suffering from mental disorders is an important problem that interferes with the delivery of medical assistance. Social distancing by HP is an integral part of stigmatization, which differs between various mental disorders, as well as between psychiatrists (PSY) versus nonpsychiatrist healthcare professionals (NPHP). SUBJECTS AND METHODS: The study included 141 HP: PSY (n=20; 36.2±4.2 y.o.) and NPHP (n=121; 25.9±2.2 y.o.). The NPHP group included general practitioners (GP)/physicians (n=29; 20.6%), surgeons (n=19; 13.

Temporal associations between depressive features and self-stigma in people with substance use disorders related to heroin, amphetamine, and alcohol use: a cross-lagged analysis.

BACKGROUND: Depression is a mental health problem and substance use concerns are socially unacceptable behaviors. While depression and substance use may individually impact self-concept and social relationships, their co-occurrence can increase the risk of self-stigmatization. However, there is no evidence regarding how depression and self-stigma may influence each other over time. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the cross-sectional and longitudinal relationships between features of depression and self-stigma in people with substance use disorders. METHODS: Overall, 319 individua
