Over the past decade, pneumatic reduction has been increasingly accepted as the treatment of choice for pediatric intussusception. However the effectiveness of air compared with the more traditional barium reduction of intussusception continues to be a source of concern and debate. From August 1993 to November 1994, pneumatic reduction was used to treat 75 episodes in 73 patients with proven intussusception at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taoyuan. PURPOSE: Recurrent trachea-esophageal fistula (recTEF) is a frequent (5%-10%) complication of congenital TEF (conTEF) and esophageal atresia (EA) repair. In addition, postoperative acquired TEF (acqTEF) can occur in addition to or even in the absence of prior conTEF in the setting of esophageal anastomotic complications. Reliable repair often proves difficult by endoluminal or standard surgical techniques. We present the results of an approach that reliably identifies the TEF and facilitates airway closure as well as repair of associated tracheal and esophageal problems.

BACKGROUND: The rebleeding risks and outcomes of endoscopic treatment for acute lower gastrointestinal bleeding (ALGIB) may differ depending on the bleeding location, type, and etiology of stigmata of recent hemorrhage (SRH) but have yet to be fully investigated.
