Postoperative pain perception and associated risk factors in children after continuous rotation versus reciprocating kinematics: A randomised prospective clinical trial.

To compare the postoperative pain of continuous rotation and reciprocating movements after pulpectomy of non-vital primary molars and determine associated risk factors. 146 children aged 4-8 years with one primary molar indicated for pulpectomy were randomly assigned to two equal groups: those instrumented with continuous rotation motion (Hyflex EDM Coltene/Whaledent) and reciprocating motion (Reciproc R25 (VDW)). A 4-point pain scale was used to assess postoperative pain frequencies, which were compared at different intervals using the Chi-square test. Postoperative pain risk factors were det

Does α-lipoic acid therapeutically effective against experimentally induced-acute pulpitis in rats?

The purpose of the study was to investigate the therapeutic effects of α-lipoic acid (ALA) on an induced-acute pulpitis model in rats. Twenty-four Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into three groups: control, induced-acute pulpitis (PULP) and PULP + ALA groups. In the PULP and PULP + ALA groups, the crowns of the maxillary left incisors were removed horizontally. All exposed pulp tissues were treated with 5 µL LPS solution. In the PULP + ALA group, the rats were treated intraperitoneally with a single dose of ALA (100 mg/kg). The rats were sacrificed 24 h after pulp injury, and the trun

Rare variant of dens invaginatus with accessory root and labial talon cusp in maxillary lateral incisor-Case report.

Dens invaginatus (DI) often causes dysmorphic changes in both the crown and root. This case report presents a complicated type 3a DI in a maxillary lateral incisor with labial talon cusp and root bifurcation. Although lingual talon cusp is common in maxillary lateral incisor, labial talon cusp is rare. An auxiliary palatal root in maxillary lateral incisor is also unusual. No such case involving all three variations has been described in the literature. The DI was classified as type B4 according to Schulze and Brand, as it involved division of pulp and root. DI was managed by orthograde MTA, r

The role of polymorphism of the IL6 gene in tooth replantation.

The absence or presence of root resorption on the root surface of a replanted tooth indicates an immune-inflammatory reaction. Since interleukin-6 (IL-6) is considered an inflammatory marker in bone resorption, this study aimed to investigate the association between clinical variables and polymorphisms in IL6, with the outcome of replanted teeth at 1-year follow-up. Altogether, 127 avulsed teeth that were replanted and had their root canals treated were selected for this study. Periapical radiographs were taken after replantation and after 1 year. Real-time PCR was used to genotype IL6 polymor

Management of a perforating internal root resorption using mineral trioxide aggregate: a case report with 5-year follow-up.

Internal root resorption is characterised by progressive loss of tooth substance initiating at the root canal wall as a result of clastic activity. This report describes a case of a perforating internal root resorption on a maxillary central incisor in a 25-year-old patient. The perforating internal root resorption was firstly diagnosed with periapical radiographs and assessed with full detail with the aid of CBCT, allowing determination of the extension and areas involved in the resorption lesion, as well as the treatment planning. According to these findings, a MTA barrier was performed on t

Resistance to compressive force in continuous chelation.

Continuous chelation involves the simultaneous use of sodium hypochlorite and a chelating agent. Given the combination of a proteolytic agent and a demineralising chelator, this study aimed to investigate whether mixtures containing the weak chelators etidronate or clodronate and sodium hypochlorite could adversely affect the mechanical strength of teeth compared to the sequence sodium hypochlorite/EDTA/sodium hypochlorite. Matching pairs of bovine teeth were tested on a universal testing machine, and the compressive load at fracture was recorded. One root from each pair was prepared with the

Dentinal dysplasia type 1: A 3D micro-computed tomographic study of enamel, dentine and root canal morphology.

Dentine dysplasia type 1 is a rare and complex dental anomaly. Our aim was to conduct a morphometric assessment of a dentinal dysplasia type 1c (DD1c) caries-free mandibular second molar, extracted due to symptomatic apical periodontitis. Controls consisted of five intact mandibular second molars. Micro-computed tomography analysis showed that the DD1c volume % for enamel, dentine/cementum and pulp chamber fell in the 0.36th, 99.97th and 0.09th percentiles of the control teeth (P < 0.01). It also revealed an extremely complicated root canal system in the DD1c tooth with a varying degree of den

A survey of patients' perceptions about, and their experiences of, root canal treatment.

Root canal treatment (RCT) is widely perceived to be a painful procedure. There is a lack of data regarding patients' perceptions of RCT within the Australian population. The aims of this pilot study were to investigate the perception of adult Australian patients within the Perth Metropolitan area and to identify how this changes following treatment. Effects of demographic factors on anxiety and pain experience were also explored. Sixty-nine patients were surveyed, of which 28 (41%) completed both pre- and post-treatment surveys. Modified Visual Analogue scales and multiple choice questions id
