In a retrospective study the results of vagino- and colour flow Doppler sonography of 23 tubal pregnancies verified by surgery were documented. Due to the neovascularisation in the trophoblast tissue the vascular impedance was elevated in all cases. The mean value of all pulsatility indices was 0.85 +/- 0.2. The direct signs of tubal pregnancy were seen in only 20 cases with vaginosonography alone. The combination of vagino- and colour flow Doppler sonography offers the chance of an earlier detection (5th week of pregnancy) of a tubal pregnancy.

Falloposcopy combined with laparoscopy was performed in 11 women during the late follicular phase of spontaneous menstrual cycles, and a preovular follicle was confirmed to be present in each case. Twenty-five patients with a tubal pregnancy were treated by an injection of methotrexate (MTX) into the tubal swelling after vasoconstriction of the mesosalpinx with adrenaline. Seventy-six patients with two or more ectopic pregnancies treated at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University Central Hospital, Tampere, Finland over a period of 14 years (1972-1985) were retrospectively analyzed. Conservative tubal surgery had originally been performed in 57% of patients with a repeat tubal pregnancy, and in 41% of control patients with a single tubal pregnancy. This study presents the patient characteristics, the reason for requesting a reversal operation, the surgical technique and pregnancy rates after a microsurgical reanastomosis following a mechanical (ring or clip) method of sterilization in 55 women. A corrected intrauterine pregnancy rate of 90% was obtained. Ectopic pregnancy occurred in 7% of the patients. Human female sterilization presently has a very high probability of being reversible on the condition that a careful mechanical sterilization has been performed.

We used sequential treatment with implants of estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P) to create varied hormonal states in a group of spayed cynomolgus macaques. The oviducts of two grivet monkeys and three marmosets, all sexually mature animals, were inoculated with Mycoplasma genitalium at laparotomy. Three patients with atypical presentation of female genital tract tuberculosis are reported. Tuberculous hydrosalpinx with abdominal peritonitis, concomitant ectopic gestation with active salpingitis and tuberculous endometritis presenting as postmenopausal vaginal discharge are uncommon clinical manifestations. The age distribution, the importance of careful histological examination and the available methods for follow-up are discussed in the appropriate cases.

A total of 23 mares were inseminated once within 0-6 h after clinical detection of ovulation, 14 with fresh and 9 with deep-frozen semen containing 0.1 x 10(9) to 4.7 x 10(9) motile spermatozoa. An unusual case of miliary tuberculosis which presented as fever and a tubo-ovarian abscess in a postpartum patient is described. Fatal congenital tuberculosis was also diagnosed in the mother's premature infant. The difficulties encountered in diagnosing the tuberculosis in these patients are summarized, and the need for early recognition and therapy is emphasized. Epidemiologic follow-up of the premature infant's exposed contacts was thorough and revealed no new cases of tuberculosis among the infants or the personnel who were exposed to the infected baby.

We have greatly improved in prevention of adhesions after tuboplasty, using two different and new technics: --peritoneal grafts on crude surfaces (21 cases) --laparoscopy 8 days after tuboplasty (54 cases), and sweeping off fresh adhesions with a rod. First results seem to confirm the interest of these methods.
