OBJECTIVE: To describe a novel stent remodeling technique for the coiling of ruptured wide-neck cerebral aneurysms.
CLINICAL PRESENTATION: A 46-year-old man presented with acute subarachnoid hemorrhage (Hunt and Hess grade IV), intracerebral hemorrhage, and hydrocephalus. BACKGROUND: Adverse effects to N-acetylcysteine (NAC) are well recognized, but their etiology and incidence are unclear.
METHODS: The nature and severity of adverse effects were prospectively studied in 169 patients and potential reaction mediators studied in 22 patients.
RESULTS: Adverse effects were minimal in 101 (59.8%), moderate in 51 (30.2%), and severe in 17 (10.1%). PURPOSE: Complete renal embolization may be an alternative to surgical nephrectomy. The indications for renal embolization do not differ from those for surgical nephrectomy, but the less invasive nature of the technique is a major advantage. METHODS: A retrospective study examined the cases of 110 patients who underwent carbon dioxide laser conization for high-grade cervical dysplasia at our institution between January 1999 and March 2002. Tissue factor is a key enzyme in coagulation process. It is primary known as a cofactor for factor VIIa-mediated triggering of blood coagulation, which proceeds in a cascade of extracellular reactions. Tissue factor forms a catalytic complex with VIIa and intitiates coagulation by activating factor IX and X, ultimately resulting in thrombin formation. Being a transmembranic glycoprotein it takes a signalling information to another cell activity after endothelium or other tissue damage.
