CONTEXT: Poor psychological responses after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) have been associated with a failure to return to sport and increased secondary injury risk. However, we do not know whether poor psychological responses after ACLR influence patient-reported knee function and knee symptoms.
OBJECTIVE: To examine the association between psychological factors (ie, psychological readiness and injury-related fear) and the presence of persistent knee symptoms in individuals 6 to 12 months after ACLR.
DESIGN: Cross-sectional study.
SETTING: Research laboratory.

BACKGROUND: Although inguinal hernia repair in female patients is less common than in male patients, it remains a frequent procedure. The decision to divide or preserve the round ligament has largely been left to surgeon preference, but little data exists about its impact on outcomes. This study aimed to describe current practices for round ligament management and identify the impact of division on surgical and patient-reported outcomes.
STUDY DESIGN: The 2013 to 2021 Abdominal Core Health Quality Collaborative database was queried for all female patients undergoing inguinal hernia repair wit

OBJECTIVES: For iliotibial band (ITB) lateral extra-articular tenodesis or anterolateral ligamentous/capsular reconstruction with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, a clear understanding of the referenced anterolateral knee anatomy is critical-especially given the risk of injury to the physis or key anterolateral structures in the paediatric population, which is at high-risk for primary and secondary anterior cruciate ligament injury. The purpose of this study was to quantitatively assess the anatomy of the knee physes, paediatric lateral collateral ligament (LCL) origin, popliteus ori

Approximately 1% of active individuals participating in sports rupture their anterior cruciate ligaments (ACL) every year, which is currently reconstructed using tendon autografts. Upon reconstruction, clinical issues of concern are ACL graft rupture, persistent knee instability, limited return to sports, and early onset of osteoarthritis (OA). This happens because tendon autografts do not have the same compositional, structural, and mechanical properties as a native ACL. To overcome these problems, we propose to use decellularized bone-ACL-bone allografts in ACL reconstruction (ACLR) as a mec…

This systematic video analysis of 21 anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries sustained by elite-level netball players during televised games, describes the situation, movement pattern and player behaviour, providing insight regarding the injury mechanism. Seventeen of the ACL injuries occurred from jump-landing actions and only two from cutting manoeuvres. A common scenario was identified for 11 players. In this scenario, players were decelerating rapidly after jumping to receive a high pass, utilising a double-footed landing with a wide base of support (WBOS). Deceleration appeared to be ap

After anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, a decrease in muscle strength associated with muscle atrophy is frequently observed. The temporal and spatial effects of reconstructive surgery on muscle atrophy have not been examined in detail. This study aimed to 1) reveal the short and mid-term effects of reconstructive surgery on muscle atrophy, and 2) investigate the differences in the degree of atrophy after ACL reconstruction in the hindlimb muscles. ACL transection with or without reconstructive surgery was performed unilaterally on the knees of rats. Untreated rats were used as controls.

INTRODUCTION: Peroneal nerve injuries are rare injuries and usually associated with multiligamentous knee injuries (MLKIs) involving one or both cruciate ligaments. The purpose of our study was to perform a multicenter retrospective cohort analysis to examine the rates of peroneal nerve injuries and to see whether a peroneal nerve injury was suggestive of a particular injury pattern.
METHODS: A retrospective chart review was conducted in patients who were diagnosed with MLKI at two level I trauma centers from January 2001 to March 2021. MLKIs were defined as complete injuries to two or more k…

We report the 4-year postoperative outcome of a child with Manner Type I aplasia of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee and severe genu valgum. The child was experiencing pain, reduced mobility, and frequent left knee locking and instability. The patient was successfully treated with hemiepiphysiodesis (guided growth procedure) of the left knee joint to treat genu valgum deformity using 8-plates, resulting in improvement of knee stability. This spared her major ligament reconstruction of the knee to treat the aplastic ACL, and the patient was able to fully participate in phys

CONTEXT: Deficits in knee extension strength after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction have been a major problem. The inadequate recovery of the knee extension strength of surgical limb reportedly delays return to sports and increases reinjury risk. Accordingly, the early detection of knee extension strength deficits after reconstruction may help plan early interventions to manage impairment. This study aimed to clarify the association between knee extension strength at 3 and 6 months after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
DESIGN: Retrospective study.
METHODS: Fifty patients

This study aimed to explore the single-legged landing kinematics that could lead to increase or decrease in the risk of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Immediate pre-impact kinematics at the single-legged landing from 33 healthy young female handball players were evaluated. Thereafter, two-year follow-up for ACL injury incidence was conducted, in which six new ACL injuries in non-dominant leg were registered. The evaluation of pre-impact kinematics across participants was performed first by the principal component analysis to decompose them into the kinematic components (KCs), and the

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) plays a significant role in knee stability, protects the joint under multiple loading conditions and sh … n, and morphology of these cell organelles in the respective tissues. Compared to other tissues and ligaments of other species, we found a significantly lower rate of PC positive cells. This observation might represent a tissue-specific characteristic of ACL tissue. However, our observations need to be explored in more detail in further studies.
