OBJECTIVES: To evaluate drug survival (continuation rates on drug) of anti-tumour necrosis factor (TNF) agents in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and predictors for treatment discontinuation.
METHODS: A retrospective observational study on JIA patients taking etanercept (n = 105) or infliximab (n = 104) with at least one year follow-up. Kaplan-Meier curves and log-rank statistics were used to compare treatments and a proportional hazards model to assess risk factors for discontinuation.

This study reports two cases of fatal necrosis of the lesser pelvis in patients with advanced cervical carcinoma, who had received combined radiotherapy and hyperthermia. The necrosis reached far from the high dose area, in one of the cases even outside the radiation portals. Both patients initially had treatment-related morbidity which responded well to surgical treatment. After a disease-free interval, a rapidly progressive necrosis developed. Necrosis to this extent after combined modality treatment has, to the authors' knowledge, not been described.

BACKGROUND: Femoral head deformity is the most serious sequela of ischemic necrosis of the immature femoral head. The purpose of this study was to determine if a highly potent antiresorptive agent, ibandronate, can inhibit bone resorption during the repair of the infarcted femoral head and thus alter the repair process. We hypothesized that preservation of the trabecular framework by inhibiting osteoclastic bone resorption would minimize the development of deformity in a piglet model of ischemic necrosis. The objective of this study was to evaluate the potential role of TNF-alpha in the onset of acute hepatitis in the Long-Evans Cinnamon (LEC) rat, an animal model for inherited copper (Cu) toxicosis. In LEC rats, Cu is accumulated in the liver with age, and clinical signs of acute hepatitis were observed as, icterus, reduced body weight, nasal bleeding, dehydration, and reduced food intake at 12 weeks of age.
