Bidirectional Associations Between Circulating Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Female Reproductive Endocrine-Related Diseases: A Mendelian Randomization Study.

OBJECTIVE: Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are hypothesized to modulate female reproductive endocrine disorders, yet their causal relationships remain elusive. We employed Mendelian randomization (MR) to investigate bidirectional causality between circulating PUFAs (omega-3/6 subtypes, docosahexaenoic acid [DHA], linoleic acid) and endometriosis, infertility, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), premenstrual syndrome, and premature ovarian insufficiency (POI). MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this two-sample MR study, exposure data from a GWAS of 115,006 Europeans were analyzed against outcome data

Prevalence and Clinical Correlates of Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) Among Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Systematic Review.

Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) is an eating disorder characterized by inadequate or restricted food intake unrelated to body image or weight concerns. ARFID is frequently observed in patients with gastrointestinal disorders. Given the growing clinical interest, we conducted this systematic review to synthesize evidence, assessment approaches regarding ARFID-like symptomatology in adult patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). A systematic search of MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, PsycInfo was conducted in July 2025, yielding seven studies on ARFID in IBD. This review

Support for inadvertent undereating in female adolescent athletes with clinical indicators of low energy availability.

OBJECTIVES: This study evaluated pathways to low energy availability in a sample of female adolescent athletes (n = 464). DESIGN: Cross-sectional. METHODS: Participants (age 13-18 y) underwent assessments for height, weight, eating attitudes and behaviors, and menstrual function. Bone mineral density and body composition were evaluated by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry in a subset of participants (n = 209). Athletes were classified with clinical indicators of low energy availability if they met criteria for 1) primary or secondary amenorrhea or 2) clinical underweight status (body mass ind

Comorbidities among persons living with HIV (PLWH) in Florida: a network analysis.

People living with HIV (PLWH) experience a higher rate of age-related comorbidities at younger ages. Understanding common comorbidities among PLWH and their relationship to one another could be significant in improving aging for PLWH. The goal of the present study is to identify the most common comorbidities among PLWH and the relationship between them using network analysis. We used abstracted electronic medical record (EMR) data of PLWH from the Florida Cohort study, a prospective cohort study conducted in eight cities in Florida, USA. We used International Classification of Diseases (10th r

Examining prospective mediational relationships between momentary rumination, negative affect, and binge eating using ecological momentary assessment.

INTRODUCTION: Myeloneuropathy is a diagnosis ascribed to disorders that concomitantly affect the spinal cord and peripheral nerves. Recognizing this syndrome may sometimes be arduous, even for the most consummate clinicians, because symptomatology can mimic either spinal cord or peripheral nerve disease. Besides, examination findings suggest a predominantly myelopathic or neuropathic picture. This article reports a rendezvous of rare cases of clinically diagnosed myeloneuropathy with different etiological backgrounds and therapeutic responses. METHODS: Eleven cases of non-compressive myeloneu

Japanese clinical practice guidelines for allied disorders of Hirschsprung's disease, 2017.

BACKGROUND: Despite the presence of ganglion cells in the rectum, some patients have symptoms similar to those of Hirschsprung's disease. A consensus has yet to be established regarding the terminology for these diseases. We defined this group of diseases as "allied disorders of Hirschsprung's disease" and compiled these guidelines to facilitate accurate clinician diagnosis and provide appropriate treatment strategies for each disease. METHODS: These guidelines were developed using the methodologies in the Medical Information Network Distribution System (MINDS). Of seven allied disorders, iso

[Management of thyroid diseases during pregnancy].

The management of thyroid disorders during pregnancy is one of the most frequently disputed problems in modern endocrinology. It is widely known that thyroid dysfunction may result in subfertility, and, if inadequately treated during pregnancy, may cause obstetrical complications and influence fetal development. The 2007 Endocrine Society Practice Guideline endorsed with the participation of the Latino America Thyroid Association, the American Thyroid Association, the Asia and Oceania Thyroid Association and the European Thyroid Association, greatly contributed towards uniformity of the manage

Child prostitution: global health burden, research needs, and interventions.

Child prostitution is a significant global problem that has yet to receive appropriate medical and public health attention. Worldwide, an estimated 1 million children are forced into prostitution every year and the total number of prostituted children could be as high as 10 million. Inadequate data exist on the health problems faced by prostituted children, who are at high risk of infectious disease, pregnancy, mental illness, substance abuse, and violence. Child prostitution, like other forms of child sexual abuse, is not only a cause of death and high morbidity in millions of children, but a

Lower baseline plasma selenium is associated with later suicide attempts in eating disorders: A longitudinal cohort.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with eating disorders are at high risk of suicide attempts (SA), yet nutritional correlates remain underexplored. Selenium, an essential micronutrient with antioxidant and neuroprotective functions, is often deficient in eating disorders. We examined the association between baseline plasma selenium and subsequent SA. METHODS: We analyzed 658 patients with eating disorders recruited at the University Hospital Center of Montpellier (2012-2014 and 2017-2020). Baseline plasma selenium was quantified by the hospital's biochemistry laboratory. SA occurring after baseline wer

The role of eco-anxiety in the presentation of bulimia nervosa: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Despite a growing literature demonstrating the significant impacts of climate change on mental health, research is urgently needed to investigate how climate change-related concerns may contribute to the development, exacerbation, or re-emergence of eating disorders, as well as affect the effectiveness of existing interventions. This case report contributes to this scant knowledge base by offering empirical evidence for how responses to climate change can influence eating disorder symptoms and, importantly, limit the effectiveness of evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Beha

Genomics as a Clinical Decision Support Tool: Successful Proof of Concept for Improved ASD Outcomes.

Considerable evidence is emerging that Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is most often triggered by a range of different genetic variants that interact with environmental factors such as exposures to toxicants and changes to the food supply. Up to 80% of genetic variations that contribute to ASD found to date are neither extremely rare nor classified as pathogenic. Rather, they are less common single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), found in 1-15% or more of the population, that by themselves are not disease-causing. These genomic variants contribute to ASD by interacting with each other, along w

Gastrointestinal and eating problems in women with Ehlers-Danlos syndromes.

PURPOSE: Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) are a group of heritable conditions in which abnormal collagen synthesis leads to features such as joint hypermobility, skin abnormalities, and tissue fragility. Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms are common among those affected. These may negatively impact eating behaviors, leading to weight/nutritional problems. We aimed to compare GI symptoms, disordered eating, and body mass index (BMI) between EDS patients and healthy controls, and to explore the link between these variables in EDS patients. METHOD: In this cross-sectional study, women with EDS and heal
