AIM: We evaluated all the cases of upper gastrointestinal hemorrhages admitted in the Department of Endoscopy of our Clinic during a 5 years period.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: 810 patients were included in our study, 64.3% males and 36.7% females, mean age 58.7 +/- 15.2 years (17-96 years). OBJECTIVE: To examine weather exposure to rubella vaccine during 1-4 wk periconceptional period can cause congenital rubella syndrome (CRS).
METHODS: This prospective study was performed in 60 pregnant women who received rubella vaccine inadvertently 1-4 wk pre or post conception. Time of conception was determined by last menstrual period (LMP) and first trimester sonography. In addition to gathering mother's obstetric and demographic information, all neonates were evaluated for CRS signs by systemic physical examination and anti rubella IgG and IgM antibody titers in cord blood samples.

The medical records of Japanese patients with measles, age 15 to 39 years old, were analyzed for febrile period in 200 patients and maximum body temperature in 211 patients. The febrile periods by age group were as follows: 7.7 +/- 1.4 days, 7.8 +/- 1.7 days, 8.1 +/- 1.7 days, 8.1 +/- 2.4 days and 7.5 +/- 1.4 days in 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34 and 35-39 year-olds, respectively. A 40-year-old Caucasian man was diagnosed hyperthyroid in 2001. In 2002 he suddenly developed a feeling of muscle weakness. Medical investigation showed decreased muscle strength of the legs and arms, reduced deep reflexes of the patella and low serum potassium. The neurological symptoms disappeared 10 hours later without potassium treatment. Similar diseases and symptoms appeared in 2006. This case demonstrates that it is important to keep HTTP in mind since it can be the clinical manifestation of hyperthyroidism.
