INTRODUCTION: Customized accurate tumor resection and individualized reconstruction is a challenging in treatment of malignant bone tumor. Three-dimensional (3D)-printing technique is now widely used in the resection and following reconstruction of malignant bone tumor, which included but not limited to tumor model, osteotomy guide and customized implant.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 17 patients, who underwent limb salvage surgery by using 3D-printed guide at a single center between August 2014 and October 2019. The median duration of follow-up was 26.5 months. Osteosarcoma (41.2%) we

Localization of defect sites is a major challenge for surgical repair of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks. Here, we report a case in which we applied a 3-dimensional (3D) printed model to accurately identify the defect sites and facilitate the successful repair of a cranial CSF leak. A 37-year-old female patient diagnosed with recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma suffered CSF rhinorrhea and severe bacterial meningitis. Lumbar drainage and antibiotic administration failed to control the condition. In addition to high resolution computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, we applied a 3D pr

Pediatric cranioplasty is indicated to repair skull defects with a wide variety of etiologies. The choice of graft material used to fill the defect is of paramount importance to the long-term success of this procedure. A variety of synthetic products have been commercially developed to avoid donor site morbidity. Here, the authors present the case of a 13-year-old boy with cranial Langerhans cell histiocytosis who underwent cranioplasty with a novel, calcium phosphate-based bone graft substitute (Montage). The patient presented 2 years postoperatively with a foreign body giant cell reaction th

The paranasal area is closely associated with midfacial esthetics. However, there is no special technique available to achieve ideal esthetics paranasal restoration. The present study aims to apply the 3D printed PolyEtherEtherKetone (PEEK) implants as an innovative solution for esthetic paranasal reconstruction. On the basis of the CT scan, the patient-specific PEEK implant and a surgical guiding plate were manufactured aided by a computer. Preoperative and postoperative CBCT data were utilized to evaluate esthetic outcomes. The average follow-up period was 13 months. All patients' wounds hea

BACKGROUND: Several sellar reconstruction algorithms stratify patients based on risk of postoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak. Many proposed algorithms employ techniques that are overly complex and confer morbidity. We review our experience with sellar reconstruction following transsphenoidal pituitary surgery and propose a highly effective, yet simple and low morbidity, algorithm.
METHODS: A retrospective review of 582 patients who underwent transsphenoidal surgery for pituitary adenoma by a single neurosurgeon between 2005 and 2020 was performed. Patients without an intraoperative CS

BACKGROUND: In 1968, Ralph Millard published his "Millard II" method for repair of wide, complete unilateral cleft lip and nose deformity. In 1979, Murawski published a major modification of the Millard II procedure in Polish. This motif was taken up 8 years later by Mohler and 22 years later by Cutting. The Murawski variation on the Millard II procedure has become a dominant motif in unilateral cleft lip repair worldwide. This brief report intends to introduce the method to the English language literature and present long-term results.
METHODS: The Murawski method alters the Millard II proce

Many surgical procedures used to treat patients with unilateral complete cleft lip do not include a complete primary rhinoseptoplasty, which is delayed until the end of growth as part of secondary surgery. Primary cheilorhinoseptoplasty using the Talmant technique has been performed at Lapeyronie University Hospital, Montpellier for 15 years. This retrospective study evaluated and compared the functional and aesthetic results obtained in such patients at 4-6 years after surgery with those obtained without primary rhinoseptoplasty in patients undergoing the Tennison-Malek technique. This study

INTRODUCTION: Boys with hypospadias often undergo reconstructive surgery to improve cosmetic appearance and functional outcomes. While the ethics of physician-patient disclosure of illness are clear, parent-child disclosure is more ambiguous. There is a paucity of research regarding the parental disclosure of past urological procedures, specifically hypospadias repair. Our objective was to determine the rate of parental disclosure in boys undergoing hypospadias repair, and to evaluate the parental perspectives regarding concerns and amount of support in relation.
METHODS: A web-based question

The profunda femoris artery perforator (PAP) flap has been recently popularized as an alternative option for microsurgical reconstruction. The use of PAP flap has never been reported and described for reconstruction of the upper extremities, in particular the forearm. The purpose of this case report is to describe a case suggesting the PAP flap as a further reconstructive option in the upper limb. A 16-year-old girl who sustained a traumatic injury to her right dominant forearm resulting in subtotal circumferential tissue loss following a road traffic accident was referred to the authors' depa

How to deal with large soft tissue defects around the foot and ankle is still controversial. The aim of this study was: (1) to display a new pedicled flap, also named the dual-perforator flap with wide pedicle (DPFWP), and (2) to compare it with the sural neurovascular flap with peroneal artery perforator (SNFPAP) in foot and ankle reconstruction. According to different surgical methods, 82 patients were divided into 2 groups: the DPFWP group (42 cases) and the SNFPAP group (40 cases). All cases underwent a flap surgery after radical debridement. The 2 groups were homogeneous in terms of age,

BACKGROUND: Reverse anterolateral thigh perforator (ALTp) pedicle flap can be used to reconstruct perigenicular defect thanks to the anastomoses between the descending branch of the lateral circumflex femoral artery (LCFA) and the perigenicular network. In a few cases, however, patients do not present any ALTp. We hypothesized that, in such cases, an adjacent perforator, the tensor fascia latae perforator (TFLp), emerging from the LCFA ascending branch, could be used instead. To assess the feasibility of this technique, a radiological study was conducted. A first patient was treated using this

Treatment for facial nerve-invading parotid malignancies usually results in complete facial palsy. The authors present a novel technique to treat facial palsy following radical parotid surgery and retrospectively evaluate results in terms of soft tissue symmetry at rest and during smiling and eyelid closure using the eFACE system. 9 patients with facial palsy following parotid malignancies resection or undergoing parotidectomy with planned facial nerve resection for tumor invasion were treated with the association of mini-invasive temporalis flap rotation and upper lid lipofilling to restore s
