Mesenteric panniculitis is a rare disease of the adipose tissue of mesentery. Ascites is an unusual presentation. We report a case of panniculitis whose initial presentation was an obesity-hypoventilation syndrome with pulmonary hypertension. Respiratory disorders were related to abundant ascites. Panniculitis cure and ascites disappearance allowed return to normal pulmonary function and pulmonary artery pressure.

Identification of idiopathic hypersomnia dates back 20 years only. PURPOSE: This study compares craniofacial measurements of lateral cephalometric radiographs of young obstructive sleep apnea patients with those of nonapneic snorers and controls.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Forty-eight patients (BM=28.0+/-3.8) with obstructive sleep apnea, 25 patients (BMI=26.3+/-3.5) with nonapneic snoring, and 54 controls (BMI=24.8+/-2.7) were evaluated. We performed sleep studies in eight patients with multiple system atrophy (MSA) and three patients with peripheral bilateral vocal fold palsy (PBVFP) and investigated stenosis of the upper airway tract during sleep in MSA patients with vocal fold palsy. It is well established that, as a group, insomnia patients overestimate sleep onset latency (SOL) and underestimate total sleep time (TST) when compared to objective polysomnographic (PSG) findings.
