AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a sensor of cellular energy status found in metazoans that is known to be activated by stimuli that increase the cellular AMP/ATP ratio. A unique set of affinity-purified anti-profilin and anti-actin antibodies generated against a covalently coupled version of the profilin:actin complex was used to assess the distribution of profilin and non-filamentous actin in mouse melanoma cells. Tissue transglutaminase (TG2) is involved in Ca(2+)-dependent aggregation and polymerization of proteins. We previously reported that TG2 mRNA is up-regulated in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) cells compared with normal ovarian epithelium. Various attenuated Yersinia enterocolitica strains expressing different sections of the Entamoeba histolytica surface lectin via the type III protein secretion system (T3SS) were assessed for their use to orally vaccinate rodents against invasive amoebiasis. Venoms from 30 different snake species were tested in a disc diffusion assay for antibacterial effects against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
