A data-constrained survival stratification model for surgically managed glioblastoma across public and real-world cohorts.

BACKGROUND: Glioblastoma (GBM) has highly heterogeneous postoperative survival. Although contemporary prognostic assessment ideally requires molecular, functional, and surgical-detail variables, these data are often unavailable in population-based and multicenter real-world datasets. METHODS: Adults with histologically recorded GBM and tumor-directed surgery (resection or biopsy) in SEER formed the derivation cohort. A multivariable Cox model estimated 6-, 12-, and 18-month overall survival and was externally evaluated in CGGA and an independent institutional cohort without refitting. Because

Public willingness to pay for hybrid blue-green infrastructure: Evidence from the Clyde and Forth Estuaries, Scotland.

Nature-based solutions are increasingly recognised as climate-resilient strategies for coastal climate adaptation. This study estimates public willingness to pay (WTP) for the creation of hybrid blue-green infrastructure in place of vacant and derelict land in the Clyde and Forth estuaries, using a contingent valuation method with a payment card format. Tobit and interval regression models were used to evaluate the effects of socioeconomic, attitudinal, and consequentiality variables on WTP. Modelled mean annual household WTP was £84.95 (95% CI:£78.82-£91.13) for the Clyde and £86.01 (95% CI:

Comparing biomedical and psychosocial-cultural models in reducing public stigma toward schizophrenia: A holistic experimental study.

BACKGROUND: Existing studies have primarily examined how biogenetic explanations for the causes of mental illness influence stigma, while largely neglecting the impact of presenting psychiatric medication or medical techniques as the primary solutions. The present study addresses this gap by experimentally investigating the effects of presenting the full biomedical model, including both explanations and treatments for the symptoms of schizophrenia, to the public on stigma. Furthermore, it compares these effects with those of a psychosocial-cultural model across nine experimental conditions. Th

Transparency, accountability, and scholarly integrity: A systematic narrative review of artificial intelligence governance frameworks in healthcare publication.

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare research and scholarly publication has produced a rapidly expanding but fragmented ecosystem of reporting guidelines, governance frameworks, editorial policies, and regulatory instruments, imposing significant burdens on researchers, reviewers, and editors. This systematic narrative review identified, stratified, and synthesized governance frameworks and reporting standards addressing transparent and ethical AI use in healthcare publications, and characterized the governance trajectory from predictive model standards to generative A…

Public Health Pharmacology: a framework for population-level immunologic monitoring (PLIM) to optimize vaccine performance in Africa.

Despite high administrative immunization coverage across Sub-Saharan Africa, unexpected infectious disease outbreaks pose significant public health challenges. Traditional tracking relies heavily on logistical inputs and reactive surveillance, leaving an unmonitored biological gap in real-world host immunity. This paper presents a novel systems-design conceptual framework for Population-Level Immunologic Monitoring (PLIM) as a core operational tool of Public Health Pharmacology (PHP) to systematically bridge this gap. PLIM operates across three interconnected pillars: (1) biological sentinel s

Governing socio-ecological transition in an industrial city: public institutions' prominence and the risk of a top-down process.

This article examines the governance of the socio-ecological transition in the industrial city of Taranto (Italy) as it strives to move beyond its historical dependence on the steel industry and towards a more sustainable model of development. Based on the qualitative evidence, the article shows the protagonism of local public institutions, namely, the Puglia Region and the Municipality of Taranto. Through a mix of ideational, political, and economic mechanisms, local public institutions have adopted a post-industrial economic model and articulated a vision for Taranto's transition aligned wit

When inclusive leadership meets supervisory interaction pressure: explaining innovative behavior among public employees.

INTRODUCTION: Public organizations increasingly depend on employees to identify service failures and implement improvements, yet immediate supervisors combine developmental support with evaluative authority. Drawing on job demands-resources theory and integrating psychological contract and public service motivation research, this study examines how inclusive leadership is associated with innovative behavior and when supervisory interaction pressure constrains this relationship. METHODS: Cross-sectional survey data were collected from 4,511 tax civil servants across a provincial tax administra

Rethinking success in public health education and promotion: a narrative ownership framework for sustainable health behavior change.

Public health education and promotion has largely evaluated success in terms of measurable behavioral outcomes. While this outcome-centered logic has advanced intervention science, behavior change is frequently not sustained once programs end, and outcome indicators alone cannot show how change is experienced, interpreted, and held over time. The objective of this paper is to advance and operationalize the hypothesis that outcome-only definitions of success are epistemologically incomplete and ethically fragile. We proceed conceptually, identifying two structural limitations of outcome-centere

Public awareness of alpha-gal syndrome and tick bite prevention practices, United States, Fall 2023.

Alpha-gal syndrome (AGS) is a unique non-infectious tickborne disease that can develop after a tick bite. AGS can cause severe allergic symptoms (when patients are exposed to alpha-gal) and be challenging for patients to manage because alpha-gal is found in mammalian meat, dairy, and some non-food products. We sought to understand public awareness of AGS, especially relative to other tickborne diseases. We used a 2023 nationally representative survey of adults to investigate public awareness of AGS in the United States and found that knowledge was very low, with 70% of respondents having no pr

Evaluating the reach and equity of public spaces in Mexico City using mobility data: the case of the Utopías in Iztapalapa.

Cities invest in social infrastructure to improve well-being, but the benefits depend on who can use these spaces and who actually does. Access is therefore not only a matter of whether people live close enough to reach a facility, but also of who travels to it and from how far. We examine this realized access using high-resolution human mobility data from Location-Based Services (LBS) for the Utopías, a network of thirteen community centers offering free recreation, culture, and care in Iztapalapa, an underserved borough of 1.8 million residents in eastern Mexico City. We combine six months o

The Readability of Patient-Facing Information in Public Reporting System: Cross-Sectional Evaluation of the City of Helsinki Website.

BACKGROUND: Public reporting websites have become increasingly important for improving health care transparency and supporting informed decision-making. However, little empirical evidence exists regarding whether the readability of these websites adequately meets users' information needs, particularly in the context of digital health and Finland's ongoing social welfare and health care reform. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the readability of health information on the City of Helsinki public reporting website. METHODS: A cross-sectional website evaluation was conducted using the Eng

Adverse Events Following Immunization: Mechanisms, Clinical Manifestations, Surveillance, and Public Health Management-A Narrative Review.

Immunization is a cornerstone of global public health, preventing substantial morbidity and mortality worldwide. However, the long-term success of immunization programs depends not only on vaccine effectiveness but also on robust systems for monitoring and managing vaccine safety. Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFIs), defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as any untoward medical occurrence that follows immunization and does not necessarily have a causal relationship with vaccine use, remain an important challenge for vaccine safety surveillance and public confidence. This nar

Labor market inclusion of autistic adults in Brazil: bridging functional assessment, clinical practice, and public policy.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is increasingly recognized in adulthood, yet unemployment and underemployment remain disproportionately high among autistic adults worldwide. Although Brazil has developed a comprehensive legal framework grounded in the biopsychosocial model of disability, including Law No. 12,764/2012, the Brazilian Inclusion Law (13,146/2015), and employment quota legislation, these advances have not consistently translated into sustainable workplace inclusion. This narrative review critically examines the Brazilian legal framework for labor inclusion of autistic adults, the li

Public knowledge, stigma, and social acceptance toward mental illness in the Gulf region: a cross-sectional survey.

BACKGROUND: Mental illness stigma undermines help-seeking, treatment engagement, and social inclusion globally. Although the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region has undergone rapid social and health-system modernization, few studies have simultaneously assessed public knowledge, attitudes, and intended behaviour toward people with mental illness using validated instruments. OBJECTIVE: To examine mental-health knowledge, public stigma, and social acceptance among adults in GCC countries using the Mental Health Knowledge Schedule (MAKS), the Reported and Intended Behaviour Scale (RIBS), and t

Breaking the stigma: the role of family support in hepatitis B management from a public health education perspective.

Hepatitis B remains a major global public health challenge. Beyond its clinical burden, hepatitis B-related stigma persists as a multilevel social process embedded within relational and institutional structures. Despite advances in vaccination and antiviral therapy, individuals living with hepatitis B continue to experience psychological distress and social marginalization shaped by stigma. Family systems represent a central relational context in which infection identity is interpreted and negotiated. Through disclosure practices, identity organization, and responses to institutional pressures

AI Health Literacy: a reflective framework for LLM-based generative AI in public health education and promotion.

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is changing how citizens search for, understand, and use health information. Large language models (LLMs) can simplify, translate, summarize, and tailor health-related content to individual questions. At the same time, AI-generated responses may appear fluent, plausible, and empathic without necessarily being complete, up to date, evidence-based, or suitable for a person's individual situation. This creates a public health challenge for Public Health Education and Promotion, as AI-generated answers may increasingly shape how citizens access, interpret, a
