PURPOSE: This study reviewed the past and present status of liver transplantation (LT) and outlooks for the future of LT in Korea.
METHOD: The first LT in Korea was successfully performed using a deceased donor graft in 1988. Pediatric and adult living donor liver transplantations (LDLTs) were initiated in 1994 and 1997, respectively. From 1988 to 2013, 10,581 LTs were performed at 40 centers, whereas LDLT accounted for 76.5% of all LTs.

Anthracycline antibiotics are an effective therapy for a variety of neoplastic diseases. Dilated cardiomyopathy is a known risk of their use. Because of the risk of new or recurrent neoplasm with immunosuppression transplantation is often delayed. Our patient developed early cardiomyopathy with congestive heart failure 3 months after completion of chemotherapy. Given the severity of her cardiac symptoms the decision was made to proceed with heart transplantation in the short term after completion of her chemotherapy. OBJECTIVE: To describe the outcomes and recurrence of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) after liver transplantation.
METHODS: Clinical data of 16 patients with AIH who underwent liver transplantation were analyzed retrospectively. The postoperative cumulative survival rate of the patients was calculated. Onychoheterotopia is a rare condition characterized by ectopic nail tissue growth. It is a digital mass that is commonly misdiagnosed. We describe a 6-year-old girl who presented with onychoheterotopia after trauma to the digit. Her onychoheterotopia was incorrectly diagnosed as a common wart. It is important to include onychoheterotopia in the differential diagnosis of digital masses, especially in the setting of previous traumatic injury.
