From Normal Mucosa to Colorectal Cancer in Lynch Syndrome: Single-Cell Dissection of Cellular Heterogeneity and Communication Networks.

OBJECTIVE: To generate a single-cell atlas of colorectal cancer (CRC) development in Lynch syndrome (LS), and to delineate the associated cellular reprogramming and intercellular communication networks. METHODS: We performed single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) on matched normal mucosa, adenoma, and carcinoma tissues obtained from patients with LS. Following quality control and batch-effect correction, we used the Uniform Manifold Approximation and Projection (UMAP) clustering and marker gene analyses to annotate cell types, differential expression analyses to identify stage-specific genes,

Triangular Partnership in Oncology: The Kenya-Nepal Oncology Network Project for the Control of Breast and Cervical Cancer in Kenya and Nepal.

The impending increase in cancer incidence around the world remains one of the most pressing health challenges of the 21st century. Triangular partnerships, which include at least one institution from the Global North and two or more from the Global South (North-South-South partnerships), present promising avenues to address inequities in oncology care by uniting actors in similarly resourced health care settings around a central goal. Despite this, triangular partnership remains rare in the field of oncology. Here, we present the Kenya-Nepal Oncology Network (KeNON), a novel triangular partne

Combined effects of super absorbent polymers and microbial fertilizers Co-application on apple production in the Loess Plateau.

Super absorbent polymers (SAP) and microbial fertilizers (MF) are pivotal in ameliorating soil physicochemical properties, regulating plant growth, and enhancing fruit quality. However, the combined effects of their co-application on apple plants remain unclear. To address this, a two-year field experiment was conducted on the Loess Plateau to evaluate different co-application ratios of SAP and MF. Results showed that the combined application improved soil properties, with higher contents of available nitrogen and organic matter, better moisture retention and lower soluble salt content. These

Cave adaptation drives coordinated transcriptional remodeling across diverse cell types in the brain of a teleost fish.

Adaptation of organisms to extreme environments requires dramatic phenotypic changes. Studying these changes can elucidate mechanisms underlying phenotypic differences in the context of both evolution and human disease. The Mexican tetra, Astyanax mexicanus, is a powerful model of extreme adaptation over a short evolutionary time scale. This fish species includes surface- and cave-dwelling ecotypes, with cavefish displaying many adaptations to subterranean life, including behavioral changes such as sleep loss, increased appetite, and reduced aggression. Unraveling the mechanisms underlying the

The Integrated Management of Sugar-Beet Soilborne Diseases Through Rhizosphere Microbiome Strategies: A Critical Review of Agronomic Evidence and Application Gaps.

Soilborne diseases caused by Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. betae, Aphanomyces cochlioides, and Pythium spp. constrain sugar-beet production worldwide, with yield losses exceeding 50% in severely affected fields. These pathogens frequently co-occur, yet most biological control and microbiome studies address them individually, and recommendations from model crops often fail to translate to sugar beet's distinctive root biology and rotation systems. This critical review synthesises evidence on the rhizosphere microbiome as a plant protection resource, organising the literature by

Prison health data collection: Transforming prisons from public health risks to opportunities for global health equity.

Despite the health challenges inherent to prison settings and their implications for public health and global health equity, in most countries we know almost nothing about the health status of people deprived of liberty, nor the prison healthcare services in place to respond to their health needs. Over 11 million people are imprisoned globally on any given day, and an estimated 30 million people are released from prisons into the community each year. Prisons concentrate some of the world's most medically and socially vulnerable populations, yet prison healthcare services are typically under-re

Disrupted Vessels-Connected Voices: Why Patient Partnership and Cross-Disease Collaboration Are Essential for Accelerating HHT Research.

Rare vascular diseases such as hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) represent a big challenge in biomedicine: complex pathomechanisms, limited patient material, and fragmented research communities slow down therapeutic progress. We argue that two elements are pivotal to bypass this problem. First, genuine partnership with patients-ranging from biospecimen donation to agenda setting-can unlock critical resources and align research with real-world needs. Second, molecular intersections between HHT and related pathologies call for coordinated, cross-disease programmes rather than isolated

Nutritional strategies against dementia in rural populations.

Dementia is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that represents a growing challenge to global health, especially in aging populations. The burden of dementia is high in rural communities, where access to healthcare services, nutritional resources, and educational opportunities is significantly limited. A critical knowledge gap exists regarding how rural-specific nutritional disparities mechanistically interact with gut-brain axis dysfunction to influence dementia risk. The gut-brain axis mediates neuroimmune communication, metabolic regulation, and microbial signaling, and nutritional ins
