COVID-19 vaccine-induced Radiation Recall Dermatitis: Report of a case.

Radiation Recall Dermatitis (RRD) is an inflammatory process in the site of irradiation, induced by physical and medical agents. Few cases of RRD in the skin and lung have been reported after COVID-19 vaccination. Here, we report radiation recall dermatitis after both doses of inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (Sinopharm, China).

Post-Translational Modifications in Atopic Dermatitis: Current Research and Clinical Relevance.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic and relapsing cutaneous disorder characterized by compromised immune system, excessive inflammation, and skin barrier disruption. Post-translational modifications (PTMs) are covalent and enzymatic modifications of proteins after their translation, which have been reported to play roles in inflammatory and allergic diseases. However, less attention has been paid to the effect of PTMs on AD. This review summarized the knowledge of six major classes (including phosphorylation, acetylation, ubiquitination, SUMOylation, glycosylation, o-glycosylation, and glycati…

Quality of Life of Healthcare Workers Suffering from Occupational Contact Dermatitis.

BACKGROUND: Healthcare workers are at a high risk of developing Occupational Dermatitis (OD). Affected workers often experience severe impairment of their Quality of Life (QoL). This study aimed to assess the skin-related QoL of healthcare workers with OD and to explore its related factors. METHODS: A cross-sectional and exhaustive study was conducted among healthcare personnel of four public hospitals in the central region of Tunisia. All the cases of OD declared were included. Skin-related QoL was assessed using the validated Tunisian version of the "Dermatology Life Quality Index" (DLQI). …

Concurrent Atopic Dermatitis and Psoriasis Vulgaris: Implications for Targeted Biologic Therapy.

Psoriasis vulgaris, a helper T cell TH1/TH17-mediated inflammatory dermatosis, may be effectively treated with biologic medications such as secukinumab, an IL-17A inhibitor. However, suppression of the TH1-mediated axis may result in the paradoxical appearance of TH2-mediated inflammatory skin conditions, such as atopic dermatitis (AD). Dupilumab, a biologic medication that inhibits IL-4/IL-13-cytokines involved in TH2-mediated inflammation-has demonstrated efficacy in treating AD but may result in phenotypic switching to psoriasis. We describe a patient with psoriasis that was well controlled…

Contact dermatitis from black henna tattoo in child due to paraphenylenediamine.

Temporary henna tattoos have become increasingly popular, particularly among children and teenagers. The word "henna" is of Persian origin, and it is prepared from the plant Lawsonia inermis belonging to the family Lythraceae. Concerning allergic reactions, natural henna paste is rarely responsible for contact dermatitis, which is more frequent if paraphenylenediamine (PPD) is added to the paste. The authors present a case of female child with erythematous exanthems that appeared after the application of black henna tattoo. A diagnosis of contact dermatitis to black henna tattoo was hypothesis…

Atopic dermatitis and risk of autoimmune conditions: Population-based cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is associated with immune dysregulation, but epidemiologic data on the pattern of autoimmune comorbidity in people with AD are limited. OBJECTIVE: We sought to determine the risk of autoimmune conditions in people newly diagnosed with AD. METHODS: Retrospective cohort analysis (January 2009 to December 2018), using the UK-based Oxford-Royal College of General Practitioners Research and Surveillance Centre primary care database. We compared baseline prevalence and incidence after diagnosis of autoimmune conditions in 173,709 children and adults with new-onse…

Acute Radiation Dermatitis Evaluation with Reflectance Confocal Microscopy: A Prospective Study.

BACKGROUND: During radiotherapy (RT), most breast cancer patients experience ionizing radiation (IR)-induced skin injury-acute radiation dermatitis (ARD). The severity of ARD is determined by a physician according to CTCAE or RTOG scales, which are subjective. Reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) is a noninvasive skin imaging technique offering cellular resolution. Digital dermoscopy (DD) performed in conjugation with RCM can provide more information regarding skin toxicity. The purpose of this study is to create an RCM and DD features-based ARD assessment scale, to assess the association wit…

Occupational contact dermatitis: Return to work using a multidisciplinary clinic model.

BACKGROUND: Occupational contact dermatitis often results in work disruption. Return-to-work (RTW) is an important outcome. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to determine RTW outcomes and factors associated with such outcomes using a multidisciplinary clinic model. METHODS: Chart abstraction was performed for 194 workers who received RTW assistance over a 6-year period. Elements abstracted included demographic and diagnostic information and information about the RTW program including principles, program components, barriers, and facilitators. RESULTS: Of the 902 workers seen for de…

Systemic pigmented contact dermatitis to cobalt following ingestion of cobalamin supplement.

Systemic contact dermatitis (SCD) is a condition occurring in previously sensitized individuals after systemic re-exposure to the same or cross-reacting substance. Pigmented systemic contact dermatitis after intake of cobalt containing diet has never been reported.

Erythroderma (exfoliative dermatitis). Part 1: underlying causes, clinical presentation and pathogenesis.

Erythroderma (exfoliative dermatitis), first described by Von Hebra in 1868, manifests as a cutaneous inflammatory state, with associated skin barrier and metabolic dysfunctions. The annual incidence of erythroderma is estimated to be 1-2 per 100 000 population in Europe with a male preponderance. Erythroderma may present at birth, or may develop acutely or insidiously (due to progression of an underlying primary pathology, including malignancy). Although there is a broad range of diseases that associate with erythroderma, the vast majority of cases result from pre-existing and chronic dermato…

Genistein suppresses allergic contact dermatitis through regulating the MAP2K2/ERK pathway.

Genistein is one of the main components of soybeans and has been reported to be a potential candidate for the treatment of obesity, cancer, osteoporosis and cardiovascular diseases. Recently, genistein has been shown to have therapeutic effects on some chronic skin diseases, but its underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we evaluated the role of genistein in alleviating squaric acid dibutylester (SADBE)-induced allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) in mice, and elucidated the potential molecular mechanisms in human keratinocyte (HaCaT) cell line. The impacts of genistein on the produ…

Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and concomitant atopic dermatitis responding to dupilumab.

Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) represents a diagnostic challenge because of its large symptomatic overlap with other common skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis (AD) and psoriasis. Dupilumab has offered promising results in AD treatment; however, concerns exist that its use may exacerbate undiagnosed CTCL. We present a patient with CTCL and concomitant AD who experienced improvement in both CTCL blood involvement and AD following the addition of dupilumab therapy.

Allergic contact dermatitis: From pathophysiology to development of new preventive strategies.

As the body's first line of defense, the skin is the organ most frequently exposed to chemicals present in personal hygiene products, household products, or materials used in the work environment. In this context, skin disorders account for more than 40 % of all occupational and work-related diseases, constituting a significant public health burden. Among skin disorders, allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is the most prevalent occupational disease and the most common form of immunotoxicity in humans. ACD is a T-cell-mediated skin inflammation resulting from the priming and expansion of allergen…
