27 cases of neglected post-traumatic dislocations of the radius head were followed up for 30 years. 23 of the cases were neglected Monteggia fractures. The treatment varied over the years from no therapy to the presently used technique of cubital osteotomy associated with surgical repositioning to the radius dislocation. The follow-up results were analysed to determine: 1) whether surgical intervention was justified, as the function of the upper limb of these children was often perfectly good, 2) the type of surgery to use, 3) when such surgery should be done. The results form this study, and

The sport of arm wrestling requires very little equipment, and can take place anywhere a flat surface is available. As such, undertrained participants often compete, with inevitable injury. Humeral fractures, and elbow injuries are well described, but scapular fractures have not previously been reported in the literature.

It is believed that arthritis in Behçet's disease is usually non-erosive and non-destructive. We report herein a 72-year-old female who presented with Behçet's disease and an erosive arthritis of the bilateral elbow, wrist, and metacarpophalangeal and proximal interphalangeal joints, radiologically mimicking rheumatoid arthritis.

The paper presents anatomical basis for a surgical treatment of cubital tunnel syndrome. There are five major anatomical locations where the ulnar nerve may be compressed near the elbow. Transfer of the ulnar nerve decompresses all five locations simultaneously and thus theoretically may be more reliable.

A rare case of a fracture involving almost the entire coronoid process of the ulna (type III) is described. Open reduction and internal fixation of this fragment restored elbow stability and resulted in a painless range of motion lacking only 5 degrees of extension at 7 months.

Erythema elevatum diutinum is a rare disease of unknown aetiology. It is usually symmetrical with multiple lesions. An association with rheumatoid has previously been reported. We report a case of atypical erythema elevatum diutinum affecting the right elbow of a female patient with seropositive rheumatoid arthritis.

Gout is an inflammatory disease caused by deposits of monosodium urate crystals in joints, bone, and surrounding soft tissues. It can presen … tacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal joints, spontaneous drainage of white material from the right elbow, and swollen knees with exudation from the left knee. Serum uric acid was 4.6 mg/dL (reference range 3.4-7.0). Radiographs demonstrated hand erosions and hook-shaped osteophytes. The right elbow had punched-out erosions with periarticular soft-tissu …

BACKGROUND: Coronoid process fractures are a common component of elbow injuries and present significant challenges in surgical management. The all-suture anchor fixation technique, as an emerging method, offers a novel alternative for stabilizing these fractures. By enabling dual-directional fixation, this approach provides bidirectional mechanical support, resulting in enhanced stabilization of the fracture fragment.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 35-year-old male presented with a complex proximal ulnar fracture involving both the coronoid process (O'Driscoll Type III) and the olecranon. Surgical fixa…

INTRODUCTION: T-condylar (T-Y) distal humerus fractures are rare intra-articular injuries in adolescents (<2% of pediatric elbow fractures). The coexistence of a capitellar coronal shear fragment is exceptionally uncommon and can be easily missed on radiographs. We report successful management of this rare injury using computed tomography (CT)-guided planning and stable screw fixation.
CASE REPORT: A 12-year-old boy presented after a fall with a displaced T-condylar distal humerus fracture. CT demonstrated an associated capitellar coronal shear fragment. Open reduction through a posterior par…

A 4-year-old neutered male Labrador retriever presented with acute-onset nonweight-bearing lameness of the right forelimb following play activity. Physical examination revealed crepitus and pain on elbow flexion. Radiographic examination showed a linear lucency at the cranial margin of the medial coronoid process of the ulna (MCP), with sclerosis and periosteal new bone formation, consistent with degenerative joint disease secondary to elbow dysplasia (ED). Computed tomography (CT) identified two distinct fragments adjacent to the MCP. Arthroscopic partial coronoidectomy was performed with suc…

BACKGROUND: Estimating one-repetition maximum (1RM) is critical for safe and effective resistance training prescription, yet traditional testing can be time-consuming or contraindicated in some populations. This study aimed to develop a predictive model for biceps curl 1RM using biometric measures and handheld dynamometry.
METHODS: Thirty-one adults (15 trained and 16 sedentary) participated. Data collected included age, height, weight, sex, peak isometric elbow flexion force (via handheld dynamometer), and handgrip strength. Due to significant biometric differences between groups, statistica…

INTRODUCTION: While pediatric elbow dislocations are a common injury, rare variants of this injury exist including translation of the proximal radius and ulna. This injury is associated with high rates of neurovascular injury and delayed diagnosis. This report discusses a case of proximal radioulnar translocation, emphasizes the importance of early detection, and describes a closed reduction (CR) technique, which has not previously been described.
CASE REPORT: A 9-year-old presented to our hospital with a proximal radioulnar translocation with ulnar nerve paresthesias. CR was successful via t…

Hemimelia denotes the partial or complete absence of the distal half of a limb. Ulna hemimelia, a rare congenital anomaly, involves the complete or partial absence of the ulna in the upper limb, with an incidence of 1 in 150,000. This condition has been classified into 4 types, with the rare Type 4 variant involving humeroradial synostosis. We present a unique case of bilateral complete ulna hemimelia, humeroradial synostosis, and oligodactyly, in an 11-month-old female with bilateral upper limb shortening and restricted elbow movement since birth. Clinical examination revealed bilateral upper…

This work studied the effect of arm kinematics on human arm stiffness modulation during overground physical human-robot interaction (pHRI). Previously, using a pHRI robot OPHRIE, it was shown that humans decreased their arm stiffness to enhance sensitivity to the partner robot's movement with their eyes closed. However, the extent to which arm stiffness modulation is from arm kinematics or muscle activation remained unanswered, which may be key to understanding effective and intuitive pHRI. For this, we analyzed the kinematics of the arm during the pHRI experiment (elbow and shoulder angles), …

To compare the results of intraplexal repair and distal nerve transfer in babies with birth brachial plexus palsy (BBPP), children with Narakas group I obstetric palsy were assigned to two groups of 16 each. Children in group A were treated with classical intraplexal repair and those in group B were treated by distal nerve transfers. At 6 months, all the children in group B had achieved Modified Medical Research Council (MMRC) grade 3 elbow flexion along with 8 of the 16 children in group A, which was a statistically significant difference. At 6 months, all the children in group B achieved MMR…
