Boron-tailored starbon for fast-charging and stable-cycling lithium-ion batteries.

Starbon derived from starch exhibits tunable surface functionality and high porosity, making them prominent candidates in energy storage technology. However, the poor fast-charging and limited stable-cycling properties of starbon limits the broad applications of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) in practical scenarios. Herein, a boron-tailored approach was proposed to promote Li-ion migration and retard capacity decay of starbon anode. A boron solid-solution phase such as BC2O was formed in the starbon framework by a simple pentaborate starch hydrothermal reaction and annealing process, and then bo

L2DiffM: LLM-Guided Variational Expert Diffusion for Target-Aware 3D Molecular Generation.

Target-aware three-dimensional (3D) molecular generation aims to produce candidate molecules with chemical validity, conformational plausibility, and target compatibility under protein binding pocket constraints. Existing pocket conditioned diffusion models rely primarily on local geometric and atom-level state modeling, leaving high-level medicinal chemistry semantics underutilized; moreover, single-path de noising and fixed-step sampling strategies fail to accommo date the heterogeneity of diffusion states and inter-sample structural diversity, limiting generation quality and structural conv

Molecularly Engineered Dual-Emission Pathways with Monomer-Excimer Interplay for Single-Component Blue and White Organic Light-Emitting Diodes.

The design of an organic molecule that inherently exhibits multiple emissive channels provides an elegant strategy for structurally simple yet spectrally broad white organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Herein, we report the rational design and synthesis of a donor-π-acceptor luminophore (DBP-PXZ), comprising a phenoxazine donor moiety and a tetrahydrodibenzo-phenanthridine acceptor fragment linked through a twisted phenylene bridge. The photoluminescence (PL) spectrum of the solid sample of the compound exhibits dual emission bands, resulting in single-component white emission with CIE coor

Ionic Oligomer-Mediated High-Concentration Dissolution of Inorganic Ammonium Perchlorate in Organic Solvents for Controllable Fabrication of Ultrafine Particles with Enhanced Energetic Performance.

Small-sized ammonium perchlorate (AP) particles can significantly improve the burning rate and energy density of solid propellants. However, the development of ultrafine AP (UFAP) particles with controlled morphology remains a critical challenge due to the inherently low solubility of inorganic salts in organic solvents and the safety risks associated with conventional refinement methods. Herein, a strategy mediated by ionic oligomers is proposed to achieve a high-concentration dissolution of AP in methanol (MeOH)/triethylamine (TEA) mixed solvents via hydrogen bonding and van der Waals intera

Enhanced Tetracycline Degradation by a GaOOH@PDA/PES Photocatalytic Membrane through S-Scheme Heterojunction Formation: A DFT-Guided Experimental Study.

In this work, we rationally designed and fabricated an S-scheme GaOOH@PDA heterojunction under the guidance of density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Compared with pristine GaOOH, the as-fabricated GaOOH@PDA heterojunction exhibited nearly doubled photocurrent density and lower charge-transfer resistance, which indicated highly efficient separation and migration of photogenerated carriers. Thereafter, the obtained GaOOH@PDA composite was immobilized on a poly(ether sulfone) (PES) substrate to fabricate a novel photocatalytic membrane (GaOOH@PDA/PES). Under the optimal conditions screene

Explainable AI in Electrocatalysis and Photocatalysis: From Catalyst Design to Mechanistic Insights.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has progressed across multiple scientific disciplines, particularly transforming catalytic science by enabling data-driven material discovery, optimization, and mechanistic understanding at the atomic scale. However, conventional AI models in photo- and electrocatalysis remain largely constrained by their intrinsic "black-box" nature, which limits mechanistic interpretability and the rational transfer of learned knowledge to new catalytic systems. Here, we demonstrate a comprehensive review of explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) as an emerging paradigm that b

Thermally annealed MoS2 nanosheets for highly sensitive NO2 detection: Role of vacancies and heterojunctions.

This work describes the facile, cost-effective fabrication of MoS2-based resistive sensors for low concentration detection of NO2. The sensitive layer consists of films of liquid-phase exfoliated MoS2 nanosheets in aqueous medium deposited by drop-casting onto micromachined silicon substrates with integrated heaters. Thermal treatment of MoS2 conducted during sensor preparation generates high density of S vacancies and induces partial oxidation to non-stoichiometric MoO3-x, resulting in the formation of both S vacancies in MoS2 and O vacancies in the oxide phase. Vacancies act as high-energy b

Multidimensional tunneling and reaction-path dynamics in oxygen-insertion reactions of Criegee intermediates with small alkanes.

The alcohol-forming reactions of formaldehyde oxide (CH2OO) and its halogenated analogues (CCl2OO and CF2OO) with methane and ethane were investigated using dual-level variational transition state theory with multidimensional tunneling treatments. High-level coupled-cluster single, double, triple/complete basis set energetics were incorporated along minimum-energy paths computed at the MP2/aug-cc-pVDZ level to provide a consistent description of barrier profiles and reaction exothermicities. Representative systems were further analyzed using microcanonical multidimensional tunneling, while sma

Pyrrolic-identity-gated β,β-annulation in N-confused hexaphyrins: orbital modulation and metal-amplified near-infrared absorption.

β,β-Annulation is an effective strategy for extending the π-conjugation of porphyrinoids. However, in N-confused expanded porphyrins, the electronic consequence of annulation can be gated by the identity of the fused pyrrolic unit. Herein, DFT and TD-DFT calculations were performed to investigate naphthalene- and anthracene-fused N-confused hexaphyrins, together with their bis-Ni(II), bis-Pd(II), and bis-Pt(II) complexes. In the free-base systems, imine-type trans annulation is thermodynamically preferred. Nevertheless, the fused pyrrolic identity reorganizes the π-electronic topology and fron

Persulfate-assisted anaerobic digestion systems: advances in microbial electron transport chain reconstruction and metabolic regulation driven by reactive oxygen species.

Persulfate-based advanced oxidation processes (PS-AOPs) coupled with anaerobic digestion (AD) present a novel strategy for efficient energy recovery and resource utilization of organic solid waste. In this integrated system, reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a critical role, yet the mechanism by which ROS from PS-AOPs pretreatment affects AD remains unclear. This review systematically assesses the roles of PS-AOPs in AD systems. ROS are produced through thermal, iron-based and carbonaceous activation. These ROS disrupt hydrophilic functional groups of lignocellulose and extracellular polymeri
